Maybe if they play less Hip-Hop and more R&B on Skip Murphy morning show, Skip Murphy should do fine since he is getting older and probably growing out of Hip-Hop with the musicsnoman said:I haven't heard this rumor, but Skip Murphy has been in that post for about 15 years or so (if my memory serves me right). I think his morning show has outgrown the format. The Hip-Hop/Rap dominated format that K104 airs, no longer fits with Skip's morning show. They do need a change. Cheatham's not the answer though. They need something fresh. However, moving Skip Murphy to afternoons on KRNB is not a good move for him. This is like when 100.3 moved Russ Parr to afternoons to make room for Joyner. Russ was a morning jock and Skip Murphy's a morning jock. He needs to go somewhere that will allow him to be a morning jock.
This would be the perfect opportunity for CBS to flip either 100.3 back to Urban AC or 107.5 to Urban AC and go get Skip Murphy to do mornings, if he is indeed on his way out of mornings at K104. You could build your station on his immensely popular morning show, which will do much better with an Urban AC audience than a mainstream Urban station.

now more than ever targeting the young listeners especially to 12 to 24 instead of mainly just the 18-34 or even just a few years ago, the 25 to 54. The morning show most of the time used to get #1 ratings from the 18-34 and 25-54. Now its down. Maybe if the station as a whole can go back to the way it was like for example 2003, 2004 or even 2005, the station would still be be #1 instead of trying to focus mainly on having heavy rotation of songs every hour like 97.9 does. All K104 needs to do is to focus on its on (which focuses on the young and the grown folks) during parts of the day when needed and bring back The Wig and Nannette Lee to the morning show. The show hasn't been the same since they were on the show even though Sam has been the funniest Dj on the show. Wig and Lee bring in the fuel to keep it going. One more thing. Skip Cheatham needs to go back to the way he used to run which helped K104 during its down point in time turning it back into the #1 station in the metroplex that it was until last year.

Then again, KRNB has indeed made some serious gains in the last couple of years (especially after they switched exclusively to songs that I don't like) and maybe this is a Chapman-goes-to-KLUV kind of move (but on a much smaller scale, of course.)
But I trust Ken Dowe. In fact, he and Granny Emma should take over mornings at KRNB. Nah, just Skip it.

SO WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BIG BABY KENNY J....

The older listener like me was starting to listen to Steve Harvey with a little more mature format and the young cats where pulled to Ricky Smiley.....You could blame management for letting go of Nannette and Wig, but it is just time. I don't think Cheathem will pull big numbers. I think they should go for a name that will compete with Smiley and Harvey. But with Cheathem's big head he thinks he is a name.....Good luck with all that!.......It will be interesting to see how long Murphy stay at KRNB and what happens to the rest of the crew, Putney and Arnold, after all the contracts expire. Don't be surprise if the that whole crew reunites (including Wig and Nannette) somewhere. As crazy as it may sound they would probably fit good at Movin' 107.5, if the station can last long enough for the contract to expire.

MIDDAYS - 12 to 3 I think.

They've tried a number of good personalities, tweaking the music, old school, newer, fresher music, imaging... not a whole lot has helped. They will never have great numbers because of that rimshot signal. Not to mention, like I said, just like Russ Parr did, I think Skip will bolt when he gets a morning opportunity elsewhere.
And KSOC isn't an option. For some reason Radio One is still in love with Tom Joyner's stale show. They booted a #1 rated morning show from KMJQ here in Houston and replaced it with Joyner, when they moved into the market a few years back. So, obviously they are more worried about keeping costs low, instead of ratings success. Although, KSOC is a rimshot as well.
Like I said before, this is CBS's opportunity to seize the moment. Sure Murphy and his crew will probably have to wait out a non-compete agreement, but they will definitely put a hurtin' on Service and Radio One, if they were to snag Murphy and his "Home Team". I don't think Cheatham will work in the morning. If they were smart, they'd go get Crazy Howard McGee and his morning show, which was just dropped from WGCI/Chicago in favor of Steve Harvey, in a cost-cutting move by Clear Channel. McGee was great and he had one of the top-rated morning shows in the Windy City. He'd be a much better fit for mornings than Cheatham.
