Assuming this ad is for the morning show, I'd expect them to be getting some people together by now for 2006. By the time the person is hired and starts it will only be a few months until the end of the year, so this may not indicate Howard leaving early, but just getting prepared for the future. Whatever replaces them will require some long term planning.

question

one question that I don't think has been answered...will stern's replacement be syndicated to the markets he is on now, or will the individual stations he is on now hire different morning hosts, example: will ysp have the same host as wxrk or will ysp have a totally different morning show as will other markets?? I think the only reason stern was on in many markets is just because he was stern, his replacement might not be well known and therefore many stations may not feel comfortable with him/her.

Re: question

There really is no answer to that question. Too many stations are involved. It's ultimately up to the individual station. I'm assuming that a lot of Infinity stations will carry the new show under corporate duress.

If Stern was syndicated on a Clear Channel station (which I think he was entirely relieved of, right?) in a major market, I'm sure Infinity's unproven replacement wouldn't end up there. Clear Channel has the money to hire their own "next best thing" instead of counting on Infinity to deliver.

Now, there's a tiny little station in Atlantic City that is completely worthless without Stern in the morning. Once they landed Stern, they got ratings. A station like that in a market as itsy as Atlantic City isn't gonna be able to hire someone of that calibre to keep the momentum going. They may be a good candidate for the type of station that will go with whatever Infinity comes up with. But who knows if they'll be able to afford it?

It's a difficult question because there are so many variables involved: ownership, market size, format, revenue, and so much more. Beside Infinity stations, the new show may be most prevalent among medium-market stations who don't care to do their own talent search.
