What are the chances CBS dumps Alternative for its new CHR "AMP" format? This stations ratings have been tiny for a long time.

The chances are pretty high since CBS has been flipping underachieving stations to CHR. In L.A., 97.1 KSLX flipped to CHR as "Amp Radio 97.1", and New York on the way with 92.3 K-Rock WXRK about to be flipped to "92.3 Now FM". Orlando may be next with WOMX-FM Mix 105.1 on the bubble.

Does CBS measure the quality of the competition when determining whether to flip a station to CHR? In New York and L.A., the new CBS CHR stations will be going up against some powerhouse stations in Z100 and KIIS-FM. In West Palm Beach, a potential CHR station would be up against two stations - Wild 95.5, which is, outside of mornings, weakly programmed; and Y100, which is marginally better than Wild. In addition, if the flip were to be on 103.1, the signal would suffer some of the same problems as Wild's. Remember, 103.1's tower is far north of Palm Beach County, in Indiantown. While 103.1's reception is arguably better than 95.5's in southern Palm Beach County, it is not all that miuch better.

Do you all think that these CBS CHR stations will be programmed less cheaply than CC's? Will it be voicetracking and syndication, or local shows?

if the buzz goes AMPD itll be 95.5 100.7 (which both suck at music selection) for the obvious reason (CC) and 97.9 which could be a CHR at times and was a CBS STATION at one point

CBS never owned WRMF. First, it was owned by Richard M. Fairbanks (hence the calls RMF), then it became a James Crystal station for a brief time, then finally sold to Palm Beach Broadcasting

Wasn't WRMF owned by Fairbanks, and then RMF, WRLX, WJNA, WJNO, WLDI (then WOVV/WCLB/WXFG) and WOLL (then WTPX) sold to ClearChannel, who kept JNO, LDI, TPX, and sold RMF, JNA, RLX, and WFTL (1400) in Ft. Lauderdale to James Crystal?

Another fun question would be, did ClearChannel own WRMF for a brief time in 1997 or 98 when all this was happening before going to JCR, and then Palm Beach Broadcasting in 2002?

Another separate deal included to CC from Paxson during that time from American Radio/OmniAmerica: WOLL (now WZZR 94.3), WKGR, WEAT 850. What stations were left over to go to Infinity (now CBS Radio)??

Wow, what a mouthful.

....a little birdie told me CBS is selling the buzz????

To clear up a few errors here.First, WRMF was never owned by CC. If they were, they would not be getting the monster ratings that they now have. CC would have screwed up that station so bad, and would have it running automated like the rest of their stations are. Second, WRLX is still a CC station which they flipped to Spanish CHR early last year. Third, WTPX which was owned by Russ Oasis was the former Joy 107 (WJQY-FM)which he flipped to Spanish AC as Romance 106.7, and sold it to SBS in 1993.

How long have you losers been calling for the death of the Buzz and it hasn't happen??? 10 years now?

Geez - get a life.

It would be nice to have some intelligent, constructive conversations about broadcasting on this board instead of the same high school dropouts and DJ wannabes making up format changes. Outside of David Eduardo, most of you guys have no clue.

i wonder if CC and CBS are exchanging lets say CC gives 95.5 for 103.1?

CC will not give up Wild 95.5 up that easy. They make more money with 95.5 than what 103.1 would make.

CBS has their reasons as to why they have let 103.1 to continue. CBS makes money with 103.1. As long as it bills the way they like, it will stay as is. David Eduardo knows plenty on radio. Got to give the guy credit here on this board, but he is human here. He said in an earlier post that ratings mean a lot to radio companies. I just don't see eye to eye with him here on that. There are plenty of stations for years in this market that are underperforming and have been underperforming for a long time, and are at the bottom of the ratings. Ratings??? As long as the ratings underachievers continue to bill well, they will stay as is. This is one of the reasons why "103.1 The Buzz, Big 105.9, 103.5 The Beat, 93 Rock, and Mega 94.9 will stay the way they are. Enough said.

It's not about being good in 12+. Nobody buys against 12+, yet that is all most posters ever see.

WMIB... last book is #2 18-34. Huge. It keeps Power and WEDR down, which makes the rest of the CC cluster look good..

WMGE... Top dog Spanish language station for 18-34, getting them lots of buys. This is a major player in the other half of the market.

WBGE. #5 Men 25-54, a very salable demo. Not great, but dood.

93 Rock... a dog. All you can say is that it is better than what they did with dance.

Stations care a lot about ratings.... but in the right demos.

#1 in Tampa Bay is WDUV, but it is all 55+ and 65+ audience. Thus, the station is 14th in billings, very low for that market. Yet we see the 12+ and think it is a great station. It's not. We see low numbers in 12+ on stations that actually deliver a much sought demo effciently, and don't understand why they bill so much.

The FCC record shows that Clear was owner in the 1997 to 1998 time frame... and the did a trade plus involving WJNA, WFTL, WRLX and WTPX... it had several side transactions, so it was obviously a post-consolidation shuffle of buying more than could be owned and then spinning the rest.
