Once again, the numbers are out and both 106.7-FM Talk (1.0) and 94.1 KTFM (1.6) are tanking. Any guess on who makes the first adjustment? My guess is either both or one of these stations will flip within a month or two. And with Pre-PPM's kicking off next month, will determine which station goes first.

As for the rest of the Top 5- The Beat, WOAI, KONO, KJ and KISS. Also, Mix 96 has seen a steady increase with the adds of more Rhythmic tracks.
 
106.7 could probably be fixed by adding better syndicated talk shows. IMO, Clark Howard isn't a strong enough choice for PM Drive, although Cox gets props for offering something different from the political talk offered at every other talker in town during this daypart. I just read on another board here how music radio audiences are shrinking nationally and talk is the only growth area in radio, so I doubt they'll want to abandon it just yet.

With an owner that's drowning in red ink, KTFM likely can't afford to flip to a more expensive format. Maybe BMP will flip it to a simulcast of KTSA?
 
I never understood why BMP moved KTFM from Rhythmic AC to Hot AC a while back. Seems like a really dumb move. Rhythmic AC almost seems tailor made for a market like San Antonio. And the old original KTFM in the 90s leaned heavily on that type of music (especially during middays). Why do mainstream Hot AC when someone else is already doing it on a better signal (plus as I said, demographically, rhythmic AC makes more sense in the market).

As far as 106.7 goes, who knows. With the big boom of mainstream CHR and it's success in PPM markets, they should have probably kept Z 106.7 on. Personally, I'd love to see Cox bring back the 106-7 Jamz dance format, but it'll never happen.
 
BMP is better off either flipping KTFM to KTSA or back to spanish. Don't know if Cox would flip 106.7 back to CHR, Z was horrible. They can do well with the talk format if they get some better shows. I do think Cox made the right move with talk, it is a growing format as people abandon music stations. It's time for Magic to get an extreme makeover.
 
KLEY ("La Ley") has done well with the limited signal at 95.7. A stronger signal in San Antonio (94.1 where they once were or even 104.1) might be a real bonanza. Something that has not been mentioned yet would be to place the ESPN format on one of their FM signals. You would automatically have been night coverage than either 760 or 1250 and Sports has turned up on FM Signals in many cities (Detroit, Boston, Denver, Dallas/Ft. Worth). Would a sports signal on FM be a player in San Antonio?

I completely agree with you. I think Landis trying to desperately to attract the peeps in Stone Oak influence him to flip 94.1 to Hot AC.....wrong move. Rhythmic AC works well with stations that target the Hispanic communities such as Miami-WMIA, LA-KHHT, NYC-WKTU and San Diego-XHRM. All of these stations are examples of stations that are performing well with the PPM's. Perhaps, Univision should consider flipping 97.7 to a Rhythmic AC format.

Again, I would also like to see Cox bring back 106-7 Jamz. Jamz will likely do better now than before. There's currently less competition when Jamz originally launched. Btw, this is the lowest point this frequency has ever been.....what ashame.

Sports on FM- Our Sports stations currently don't do well on AM. I don't see them do well even if they would convert to FM. Perhaps, if SA had an NFL team they might do better.
