Is The Eagle About To Be Rammed By A Bull?

It isn't as much about KEGL's lack of performance as it is about preventing or protecting.

What happens to the KISS or MIX market share if i93 moves to 96.3?

What happens to KEGL KZPS or Edge's share if i93 stays put, 96.3 becomes something like 96x or 96 Rock and Cumulus moves Country back to 96.7 The Twister? (still active and registered)

KEGL is the underperformer with this series of PPM holders, that could be the only reason that CC MAY just be purposely leaking info to let Cumulus know, if there is going to be a pissing match, they've already unzipped their pants and swilled a Keg of Shiner.

Where is the PPM market where classic country actually works?

Where is the diary market where classic country actually works? :)

I remember a study from Arbitron about ten years ago saying that the typical classic country station gathered a formidable 1.6 share. This was, of course, before the PPM. Many classic country stations are on daytimer AMs or otherwise poor signals, at least partially explaining that. But I don't remember seeing a classic country above a 3 share 12+ in any of the top 100 markets...

I can think of two top 100 markets off the top of my head where Classic Country get's above a 3 share. KXBL/Tulsa ranks #8 with a 3.8 share and WRKA/Louisville ranks #10 with a 3.6 share.

Earlier today, I discovered on my HD radio that 97.1 HD-2's signal also carries the mainstream rock format as "The Eagle", only with limited commercial interruptions. I wonder if it's a calculated move to change the format of the main 97.1 frequency...

This is what KTFW in Ft Worth is playing as "classic country"...

INSTANT CLASSIC! ;D

I see that "classic country" station is playing by the CBS-FM rulebook of including "newer" oldies - my bad, even CBS-FM doesn't play any '00's or even '90's titles yet!

Anyone else spit Shiner into their keyboard after reading this? :D

Hey... I wonder if that visual is the inspiration for the song "Look At Me Fly"? ::)

"KXY in OKC had 3.1 in Spring book and 4.1 in Winter.." Yeah. CC has a great country programmer in OKC behind those numbers. He managed to get a local owner that was classic country give it up by squeezing them like a pimple. He took The Twister (101.9) to new country and took 96.1 to classic. That caused Tyler (93.3 KKNG) to jump. KXBL is sort of the re-incarnation of the legendary KVOO-AM 1170. The fools in Wisconsin decided they'd take away the classic country on the heritage 50kw AM where people had their dials rusted in place for decades and go to talk. Not too much longer someone appearently decided that KXBL wasn't doing so hot so they flipped it to "Big Country". Irronically I hear the idiots in Wisconsin didn't even realize that "Big Country" was the slogan that KVOO-AM used for years. It's proof that even fools sometimes find their way into doing something right occationally by a sheer stroke of luck.

JD Ryan afternoons.....

That's the smart move right there, let him and Russ crossfire mornings and afternoons like a couple of bitter divorcees. If done correctly, it would save the heritage KEGL. Duh 8)

If, and it's a big if, 97.1 the bull does go classic country they would do well to pattern themselves after Little Rock's KMJX, that is one good sounding station.

The potential move must have credibility, "baseball Jesus" and his little buddy Kuby made it the lead on yesterday's Community Quick-Hits on 1310

Patrick Davis said that KEGL is "committed" to the rock format despite the rumors.

"In fairness to employees of KEGL we want to clarify the rumors regarding a format flip to country. We are committed to THE EAGLE winning in the rock arena under the present market conditions. If market conditions change, we will reevaluate where are all of our stations are positioned, as we always do when change occurs. That may or may not lead to adjustments on any or all of our DALLAS properties.

***Under Present Market conditions, If conditions change......***

I would like to interpret the space in between the words: ***Technically, if KEGL births another turd in the monthlies with just .1 less share we will consider that a change in the market. ***

;D ;D ;D Thanks for a good laugh.

Yeah, heard that since I'm a P1. They are my talk leaders and I love me some Rhyner.

That said, I love modern hard/alternative rock even more. Thus I greatly appreciate the Eagle and the talk of format change has me greatly alarmed. I hated, bemoaned, loathed, and wished to personally shoot in the head the idiots behind 97.1's earlier changes this decade to Sunny and La Preciosa before back to it's root......the Eagle. I find myself again hating, loathing, and wishing to shoot the incompetent management bastards responsible for any future flip in the head once again should the latest prove to play out.

I don't get all the website redirections combined with the website denials. Russ "The Fraud" Martin and crew are going on like nothing is up as is the rest of the station today. I say that as a former RMS'er who does not like the current incarnation and can easily see it go away and fast.

If this a flip.....it's a damned poorly done and disguised one. If it's not.......it's damned poorly orchestrated and marketed one. This town needs another "country" station as much as it needs another strip joint. They're a dime a dozen and you can't help but hit one while slinging a dead cat.

What are others doing to find regular hard/alternative rock if the Eagle does get ass-raped? Internet radio sites? Satellite? Just let me know how to keep Godsmack and Allis in Chains on the speakers and I'll contribute.

you know, DFW really doesn't have that many Country stations.
And we certainly don't have a full Market Classic Country Station.
as a whole, DFW only has 2 full market Country Signals.
There's been an obvious hole in DFW for a while now, Classic Country.

92.1 Collin County - Classic Country
92.1 Ft. Worth - Classic Country(I think)
95.3 Denton/Collin - Americana
95.9 Ft. Worth
96.3 DFW
99.5 DFW
1190 DFW - Classic Country, when no one paid for programming.

Best rock station in DFW is 91.7 kxt...

If they're going to stick with rock, first thing they need to do is dump Mr. Buttwipe Russ from their lineup and focus on playing music in the morning than somebody rattle and carry on for 5 hours (BORING).

They need to get someone in their to program it that has some sort of personality. That may be the most boring rock station in America. It's sad.

Or, how about playing some music with personality.

Not attitude... but personality.

Any shmuck song can have a attitude.... that's a dime a dozen:

Ratt, Poison, that drunk Kid from Detroit

Dallas Rock Radio... Keepin' It REAL .... SHALLOW ... 24/7
