Is The Eagle About To Be Rammed By A Bull?

I've been reading all the gossip and taking in all the predictions on KEGL. I personally have spent lots of time working for three different versions of this radio station. My first stay was from 1988-1992 doing afternoons for "The Rock and Roll Eagle" and later "All-Hit 97.1 KEGL." It was a blast to be there in those days. Thirteen years later I was called again to do the morning show at KEGL. When they told me they were blowing up the Eagle to put Sunny 97.1 on, I knew there would be a backlash. The Eagle was a legend in Dallas for many years, but it was bleeding money and it couldn't survive in that state. I understood why the move was happening. I had a great time at Sunny too, but after a year and a half, CC decided to go to a Mexican format which lasted less than a year. By the way, the ARB came out a week after they fired everybody at Sunny and the station beat KVIL, Mix 102.9, and was right behind Ron Chapman and KLUV. So did they give us enough time? It appears the answer was no. Many people in the business were scratching their heads. Even our competition. But they were glad we were gone. It's extremely hard to figure out some corporate moves. After the Mexican 97.1 went down, it went back to almost the same format that was losing tons of money. Go figure. After working for KPLX for five years after the Eagle, and having been at KSCS part-time for the last three years, people are asking me every day what KEGL is going to do. Well after seeing some of the most horrendous moves in radio over my career, I can't even touch this one. When it happens, we'll know. Now, if I HAD to work up a format or be sent to the Middle East to do overnights? It would be country with new, recurrents, and oldies back to the 90's and a few choice 80's. I'll do mornings. Anyone for the other dayparts?
Later guys.

I loved Sunny! Especially the 70's weekends. So knowing this pisses me off even more than when they blew up the format.

The question is when does the bleeding stop and they do something different with 97.1. I am not a big new country fan, but anything is better than what it is doing now.

im gonna say some forum of christmas music may start on 97.1 in november then they debut the new country format on new years day

How do you know? You don't know what will happen.

I thought press about that was that Clear Channel actually axed the LiteFM /Peach Christmas music and started playing Country music BEFORE Christmas. Pissed a lot of people off.

I loved listening to "The Eagle" back when I started middle school. Had some great rock songs, despite the controversy by a few DJs there. I also loved listening to a few soft oldies on "Sunny 97.1". I can understand why the changes were being made, but then again, I can NEVER understand the moves local management made that would cause backlash.

It's like 5 years ago when CBS flipped 107.5 from a successful Smooth Jazz station as "The Oasis" to Rhythmic AC as "MOViN", which was a complete and utter failure less than 3 years later. Sure "The Oasis" is still broadcasting online and on HD radio, but not everyone can afford either technological items. So they would have to rely on using their public library to listen to internet radio...of course they only have 1 to 2 hours a day.

BTW, those who are missing the "Sunny" format, it is back on terrestrial radio. Albeit on KDMX 102.9 HD-2, but if you don't have an HD radio and you wanna listen to it online, here's the live internet feed: http://www.iheartradio.com/mediaplayer/?stream_id=5016

I don't know if it's the exact same one considering they're playing Oldies/Soft AC from the 60s to right now.

@Stooge: That stream link you provided redirected to this one for 106.7 Lite-FM in New York: http://www.iheart.com/#/live/5016/?autoplay=true

... and then brought up the message "not found."

Either it's a glitch, CC is starting to be restrictive on stations streaming over the Internet (as opposed to their iHeartRadio app), or they're going to blow up Lite-FM - and I seriously doubt it's the latter.

HMMMM. See if you can try this:

Click on the following link: http://tunein.com/radio/search/75038/Irving-TX/?qlc=1 and then scroll down to "102.9 HD-2 - Sunny Radio". There should be a "Listen" icon there. Click on that and see if anything turns up.

Yes, but will the "Sunny Sunbeams" be making promotional appearances again?

Unfortunately no. Like most other HD2/HD3 stations, they'll provide an endless stream of music with very little interruptions.
