Is the Hammer about to fall on yet another CC programmer?

With many rumors swirling about a possible return of DSC to CC San Diego are they about to chase out another programmer because sales can't sell?

There you go another good programmer chased out of the building because "he doesn't get it". Ratings look good. Why do the same lackies in the sales dept get away with not meeting thier goals and one good programmer after another gets escorted out of the building?

Perhaps because sales is running the show and is always going to point elsewhere when they don't make their numbers. Unfortunately a lot of what passes for "Management" in the Industry today doesn't get, or doesn't care, that compelling, localized, programming attracts audience which is what they're selling...

Because General Managers always come out of sales and know that programming is merely that annoying stuff that fills the gap between commercial sets.

Ratings look good? Look what happened to KGB after the DSC got kicked out..Dropped like a Rock..

Vonroll...it is just creepy your complete obsession with DSC. I mean creeeeeeeeeeepy. You would think they were the messiahs. Pretty sad.

When you've booted the air talent, consolidated the sales staff, killed promotions, cut down to one engineer and a part time IT person, and made traffic into a one person computer automated department, what do you have left to cut besides the guy driving the Hum Vee? The PD. Hell, programming can be done in Dallas and synchronized across the country. Just make sure that Viagra spot gets on and the satellite dish is working. And bumper stickers now have to be sponsered and sold for $1. Hannitized!

That'll never happen, this is real legendary radio here ....

Hmm. All of this hand-wringing over Bill Pugh. Don't forget, Bill was at the helm, and made many of the decisions about which programming staff to lay off in the 2 waves in 2009. Karma.

I disagree. Yes, Bill was at the helm, but the lay offs in 2009 were dictated by Clear Channel Communications. I know that the GM and Bill didn't hand pick the folks who got fired for doing their job. It was a manner for corporate survival as the layoffs effected every Clear Channel market in the nation.

It's easier to get rid of a high price on-air team than picking on those who keep the stations running -- the board ops, traffic, traffic reporters, engineers, and other folks.

Even with the Union-Tribune's dismissal of 35 reporters and editors this week, it's all about economic survival. Choices are hard; choices are painful.

We've ear witnessed folks coming back: Jeff Dotseth, Clint August, and others. My main job is in an industry that has gummit contracts and once those dry up -- I'm out there looking for a job too.

So don't blame Bill on the CCU dismissal. Sometimes, it's for the survival of the company. You may dislike the company, but from a pure bidness sense, cuts are painful and for survival.

You tell that to over 8,000 members on facebook that have the same passion I do with the DSC..You might not get some nice feedback..Have a Great DAY!!!

Actually, Bill was directly responsible for WHO was laid off. I know that CC/San Antonio gave each market a number they had to cut (in dollars). It was up to the local management to figure out how to do it. Some markets cut sales, some programming, many cut both. When the first wave of layoffs hit on Inauguration Day, the new CC GM had been in place for 2 weeks. The market comptroller and Bill Pugh made the decisions as to WHO would be cut. I know, I was one of them. I understand that they were given a mandate from corporate, and I respect that their hands were tied, but each of the people they cut in the layoffs were decided on LOCALLY. The Program Directors were not even informed of cuts that affected their stations until the morning of the layoffs.

And don't confuse the 2009 layoffs with anything having to do with Jeff & Jer, DSC, or the Mikey show. The layoffs were designed to preserve all of those shows. Yes, Bromo and Ruth were laidoff in 2009, and one of the cast members of the Mikey show was laid off reducing them to a "skeleton" crew of 5! But J&J, Mikey, DSC and all of the fireworks that ultimately took place were the result of further economic hardship for CC/SD.

Ultimately, Bill Pugh was probably a victim of some of the hard decisions he had to make. J&J gone, Mikey gone, most of all, DSC gone. Ratings and revenue down. Who gets their head chopped off?

Good solid points, and thanks for your input.
