Is the History Channel always like this?

We watch the History Channel sometimes, but not real often. I think we watch "Cities of the Underworld" on there sometimes and we've seen some specials about presidents and wars from time to time.

This morning, we've been watching some shows, "Tougher in Alaska" mostly.
All morning long, every time there's music, it's way louder than the voice levels of the talking. Even if it's just background music, it's overpowering to the point of not being able to hear the voices. I thought it might just be the "Tougher in Alaska" show at first, because when we turned it there, it sounded like a college radio station. You could see the words on closed-captioning, but all you could hear was the rock music in the background. Then it went away, and the voices could be heard if you turn up the volume A LOT. And it's happened on all the shows so far, until we turned it a few minutes ago.

Some of the commercials have even had the music different, like it's playing on a loud track and the voices are on a quiet track, like they were on different tracks and someone just didn't bother to adjust them to "listenable."
Some of the commercials sounded like the whole thing was set on loud, though, so I couldn't tell on that detail.

History channel has gone to crap........ (Used to be so much better)

Thier 2nd network is a little better (History International)

But Dude, even History International is a pale version of its former self. It used to host different shows involving subjects in other countries (usually Europe). Now it's just a dumping ground for older reruns from the History Channel. It has little or no original programming left.

I like the History channel less than I once did. It's still one of my favorites (by default) but it has wandered a long way from its original mission (sounds familiar doesn't it?). Now, if anything, it's trying to compete with the Discovery channel. Hey, I like Ice Road Truckers - but am also the first one to tell you that there's very little "history" associated with that program. It's more like their answer to Deadliest Catch.

Again, both History and Discovery are far, far better than what's become of Viacom's once-great cable channels. Those are now crap. And History and Discovery are still favorites in our house despite plenty of miscues. Of the two, History has definitely drifted that farthest from where it started.

If your receiver has any room 'expansion' or any ambience enhancing processing enabled you can have this result.
Check your settings.

I checked the History Channel today and didn't notice any audio problems. Perhaps it's in the audio settings in the TV set, or if it's happening on other TVs as well there may be a problem at the cable system.

Most stations I watch these days the background music is so loud that one can not hear the dialog. As for the commercials, I have to either push the mute button or turn down the sound because the commercials are so loud.

As for the History Channel, the quality of the programming is not what it used to be. For example how many times will HC run The Presidents, the same documentaries about Hitler, and lately movies; yes movies! Not movies about history, but Clint Eastwood westerns ( The Forgiven). If the History Channel wants to run movies, then run movies about historical figures like FDR, Churchill, and others.

The History Channel has also been running shows dealing with crime.

Maybe the History Channel has a limited video library.

Must have been a one-day marathon thing, like the "Tougher in Alaska" morning yesterday. :D

But it only did that on History Channel, all the other channels sounded fine.
Or maybe our set is going bad. One of the connections already takes a while to warm up before you can see the video [putting off digital tv purchase until it reaches 'necessary'].
Checked into History Channel a couple of times today and it sounded "normal."

I have played with the "stereo/expanded/off" sound settings on the tv set to see if that made a difference, and it doesn't seem to be doing it, today at all.

History's sister channel A&E has loud commericals as when I watch CSI Miami on A&E I always turn down the volume when they go into a commerical break.

As for History they still air some history shows about wars, etc.

History and History International channels were the main reasons I subscribed to sat TV for a long time. I loved the documentaries and other special shows not available anywhere else. However, it seems as if they've reached the bottom of their libraries as it occurred to me several months ago I had not found anything new and of interest in quite some time. It also occurred to me for the $70/month I was paying DirecTV I could have bought several DVD compilations every month to watch instead. So that's what I did.

I also discovered PBS' World subchannel which is a lot like the original History except that it is free (and no annoying commercials).

I believe there was a time when many schools actually used programming from the History Channel to be shown in the classroom. Wonder how many schools still do this? I have my doubts there are many schools out there who show "Ice Road Truckers" to their students.

what was wrong with "Life After People'.....that was well documnetary. Now if they only do life after terrestrial radio, that will very interesting.
