Salem has bought a blog site to extend the reach of its talk programming. A very interesting article outlining Salem's business plan and business model. AAR could - and should - take lessons from these people.RadioDailyNews:
Are blogs and the Internet going to be the new talk radio? Salem Communications Corp. thinks so, and it just put up $5 million to make it happen. The Camarillo company, owner of 104 radio stations, a host of Web sites and magazines and three radio syndication networks with nearly 2,000 affiliates, targets people interested in religion and politics. And it closed a deal earlier this month to take its fastest-growing radio format — conservative news/talk — into the blogosphere.Salem bought Townhall.com, one of the country's largest and oldest conservative news and opinion Web sites, and will relaunch it soon as a next-generation platform for people with something to say. When was the last time you looked at AAR's web site? Every AAR program has a blog. Moreover, every registered member can have a blog there, if AAR wants to enable it.The feature is disabled at the moment, but it was briefly enabled a few days ago. when I noticed a new "Post a New Blog Entry" addition to the "My Account" section. I presume that there are plans to enable it permanently down the road.

The article goes into much broader detail about the business plan Salem has followed, beyond acquiring a blog site.
