Is the Mormon Church buying Clear Channel?

Is the Mormon Church planning to buy Clear Channel? A caller made that claim on today's Randi Rhodes show, Stacy Taylor hosting. He introduced himself as an "ex-mormon", and said the Church intended to use the Clear Channel holdings to "propagandize" in order to bring about a theocracy based on the Mormon faith.

First, you can never take a simple call to a call in show as truth. That is obvious. Then the caller obviously had an axe to grind, as an "ex-mormon". That being said, there still could be something to his claim. Clear Channel might be for sale, I'd like to know whether or not it is, and if it is, Bonneville would be a potential buyer. From what I have seen, Bonneville, though a rather conservative broadcaster, has never been what could be called a propaganda arm for the Mormon Church or anybody else. If the caller's information is accurate concerning using Clear Channel as a propaganda organ, I do see this as presenting potential problems for the country, including people of religious persuasions other than Mormon, specifically Christians and Jews. If his information is accurate it might be wise to abort such a purchase.

Information would be appreciated.

What a frightning thought! Now thats scary and gives me chills to the bone! Yikes! I doubt it though!

Clear has already been sold to a private equity company, and is going through the approval and regulatory steps.

I heard that space aliens were going to buy it and use subliminal messages to brainwash the American people but they did some simple research and discovered that CC listeners had very little useful brain matter left so it would not work.

The Mormon Church has a 43 year long history of owning and operating radio and TV stations without prostelytizing on them: that why they habe those in the short sleeve white shirts.

Bob: Two words:

George Norry.

It's all true, and you'll hear this and other conspiracy theories on C2C. Obviously you are in the know.

Carl Rove is an alien implant and part of the lizard community that occupies the current administration. I heard that theory from the Bushes.

George Carlin used to have a joke about "Tell us in your own words."
My question is, if Carl told us in his, would anyone on planet earth understand them...? Same for George Norry?

One caller to another show said Hispanics own Clear Channel and that's why they launched so many Spanish stations. Don't trust callers.
Wrongly put - close but no cigar. Clear Channel bought several networks/stations from Mexico b/c their signals are heard in San Diego. The FCC only allows one company to own something like 39% of a market, so this was a way they could own more of the market while still complying with FCC rules b/c they were "foreign stations." The FCC changed the rules and began to count the foreign stations and as such Clear Channel had to "sell/give back" stations (hence Finest City Broadcasting).
