Is the NFL "Scripted Entertainment"?

because the Vikes got the ball first. Any game in OT it says that when the first team gets the ball. They said it during the Bills/Texans game that also went to OT. If the Vikes punted the graphic would have said "Saints win with a score". After that it switches to "Next Score wins"

and? Whats your point? So you wanted the graphic to say "Vikings wih a touchdown unless Saints get a safety or a Touchdown on an Interception"?

no it can't. If the Vikes got a FG the Saints would have got the ball and an opportunity to tie it or win. If the Vikes score a TD the game is over. If both teams got a FG on their first possesion then its next score wins. If the Vikes went down on their 2nd OT possession and got a FG they won but "first touchdown wins game" never happened.

The first touchdown in OT wins the game. Period. The graphic that FOX used was "Minnesota Touchdown wins game". That's only half right.
Any touchdown in OT ends the game...

Do you know how low in the pecking order the guy who does the graphics in TV is? They make mistakes in those things all the time. Wrong score, wrong name, wrong everything. This is not a highly skilled job. The graphics aren't cleared by the league, they're not overseen by some person of authority, quite often the director and the talent aren't aware of what's on the screen until someone points it out. I wouldn't put ANY stock in what was on the screen. It means nothing.

The graphic was correct. That other scenarios would come into play hypothetically doesn’t make it partially correct. It was factual, and given it is more common that the team with the ball would score a TD than cough it up for a score by the defense, it’s perfectly rational. They don’t need to run a Star Wars crawl with all the scenarios.

All of which has nothing to do with an absurd suggestion of being scripted. You’re just making nit picky complaints.

Since it was the Vikings' first possession, it also reminded the viewers that a Minnesota field goal would NOT win the game; the Saints would have one possession to match or beat that score. Since the overtime only lasted one possession, we'll never know if the graphic would have changed or have been eliminated after that. The Bills-Texans OT went three possessions; unfortunately, it was on another network that either was using its own graphics or -- in the mind of tbolt -- wasn't in on the fix.

The graphic would have change to next score wins.

Robert Kraft was caught in Florida soliciting sex. There was video to prove
it as well as several eye witnesses. The incident pretty much disappeared
from the media with Kraft's money buying silence. He runs the new england
cheaters the same way. Once again, how many times have they been
accused of stretching the rules or outright cheating??????

Come on everyone...

Look who is in the playoffs as of tonight:

San Francisco
Minnesota
Green Bay
Seattle

Baltimore
Tennesse
Kansas City
Houston

With the exception of SF and Houston, no huge markets. No New England, no LA, no NY x2, no Chicago, no Philly. Rigged? No, except if someone was trying to rig it the wrong way!

The NFL is much more of a star-driven league than MLB, which depends on having big market teams in the playoffs to attract viewers, but it will still be interesting to see how the ratings shake out, especially in the Eastern time zone, which is represented by just one team, the Ravens, and the Baltimore market doesn't carry much weight. Lots of neutrals in need of a reason to watch up and down the East Coast. Will most of them watch any game, so long as it's a playoff game?

Packers have a national fanbase, Chiefs have an MVP

two big market teams doesn't guarantee huge ratings, didn't last SB

Football is different than the other sports. The NFL has a national following, with most teams having decent-sized national fan bases (OK, Arizona, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Carolina may be exceptions, at least right now).

No, you make a good point. Lots of Packer-Nation fans. KC does have a good QB but really no national following. But I maintain the bigger markets will bring bigger ratings. At the end of the day, (conf. championships and Super Bowl), it will come down to the stars playing and the drama. All this makes the NFL the absolute #1 sport in the U.S., which is obviously not scripted, but still the king of sporting events in the US.

According to multiple articles, viewership for last wknd's wild card games were UP:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...s-in-biggest-viewership-in-4-years/ar-BBYGaGL

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/nfl-wild-card-ratings-hit-4-year-highs-1267328

https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/nfl-wild-card-tv-ratings-2016-01dxy7f4thsq

"Biggest viewership in four years."

So that leads me to believe there is interest in this year's games.

Los Angeles is big, but not a good NFL market. The NFL feels it needs to be there because it can't afford not to be there -- the advertisers demand it. But like Boston for NCAA football and Miami for MLB, the enthusiasm level for the product among actual living, breathing people (as opposed to the purely statistical entities that advertising types talk themselves into believing are out there, just waiting to be suckers for a sales pitch) is low. ACC football "clears" in Boston because Boston College is in the league, but hardly anyone gives a damn. Same, to a certain extent, with the Rams in L.A.

Of the 8 teams still alive this year, Kansas City is the only one from last year. The other 7 are different. Both LA teams were in the final 8 last year (Rams getting to the Super Bowl with the fiasco in New Orleans).

New England's streak of 8 straight AFC Championship appearances ended this year. That's a remarkable run for a league with free agency. Pete Rozelle wanted parity. None of the Patriots Championships have asterisks or forfeits...

22 years
1994 was the last LA team before Rams went to St Louis and Raiders went back to Oakland
Rams came back in 2016

Right. And the reason the NFL didn't return sooner is that it wanted a guarantee that a new, modern stadium would be built. The Coliseum was never going to be a permanent home for an NFL team again. The decline in the popularity of horse racing and the subsequent sale and closing of Hollywood Park cleared the path for the NFL's return.

LA being described as a bad NFL market is somewhat deceiving. First, the absence of a team for two decades-plus obviously hurt. The Rams in their original LA form actually did well in the market, and the Raiders can contribute a lot of their success to their LA tenure. Some say LA has too many distractions for it to become a great NFL market. I disagree. If the team can get the right mix of stars and of course, wins, they should do well. However, two teams operating out of the new stadium is a tougher road.
