Is the NFL "Scripted Entertainment"?

LA being described as a bad NFL market is somewhat deceiving. First, the absence of a team for two decades-plus obviously hurt. The Rams in their original LA form actually did well in the market, and the Raiders can contribute a lot of their success to their LA tenure. Some say LA has too many distractions for it to become a great NFL market. I disagree. If the team can get the right mix of stars and of course, wins, they should do well. However, two teams operating out of the new stadium is a tougher road.

Keep in mind that El A has been home to both UCLA and USC for many years and both schools have huge followings. You have to have pretty deep pockets and not mind waiting in miserable traffic to attend NCAAF on Saturday and a NFL game the next day.

They have huge followings because they have huge alumni organizations. If you're not an alum of either school, you're less interested.

That is obvious but both schools have been churning out tons of alums for many decades now (including my little Bro, the obnoxious mini Trojan) so they've managed to build up an NFL-like following in SoCal.

If the NFL was scripted..At lease the games will end on time and not over run into other programming.LOL unless it was written to do so. ..Big bucks in sports TV...

The truth is probably the commentators got to stay focus on what they can say and cant say on live TV.Unless they want to get fired and loose sponsors because they said some thing they dont like and support.. ...

On another website, which has pages devoted to NFL ratings, an expert there (at least he appears to be one) stated that the Packers, Cowboys, and NY Giants are the biggest national TV draws. If they are doing well, the overall NFL TV ratings go up a bit. It would follow that if the NFL were fixed, those teams would be in the SB more often, because it would probably bring in a bit more money to the league. But that clearly isn't the case.

One thing about conspiracy theories (and some actually do turn out true -- rare, but it does happen) is that they deny the ability of people to stab each other in the back, leak information, or screw up.

However, you do see those three teams more often on the prime time games. Even though two of the three haven't been very good. Meanwhile you rarely see Jacksonville, Charlotte, or Arizona. Scheduling isn't about winning, it's about making money. They don't have to script the games to do that.

the Chiefs-Bears game wasn't flexed out even though it no longer had any playoff meaning for Da Bears

The Bears were generally unwatchable this season for neutrals, yet their games kept popping up in prime slots. I guess enough people stick around to watch the second half of Bears games to keep the league and the advertisers happy, even though a 17-0 or greater deficit at the half (which the Bears faced at least a couple of times in national games this season) was far too tall a mountain for a clueless offense like Chicago's to scale in a mere 30 minutes.

The game probably wasn't flexed out because Patrick Mahomes is one of the most sellable stars the NFL has and draws eyeballs to Chiefs games no matter whom they're playing.

Chicago is the #3 market in the country and the Bears had won their division last year. When the schedule is made for Prime Time, it includes playoff teams and big markets. New England, Dallas, Philadelphia, Seattle and some others are regulars on Sunday Night Football and the 4pm National game.

NBC can only flex a certain number of games. San Francisco replaced the LA Rams this year as the big Western team. The Chargers and Eagles each had a game flexed out of Sunday Night. The NFL and the Networks want high ratings. They'll manipulate the schedule the best they can to get them...

Another example of the NFL not being scripted tonight. Almost everyone thought the Ravens were headed for the Super Bowl but they get blown out tonight by the underdog Titans.

Maybe that's the genius of the plan. The Super Bowl is in Miami. Titans QB Ryan Tannehill played for the Dolphins before they gave up on him. What a storyline to have him win the Super Bowl in Miami.!

I don't really believe the games are fixed, but many people do. They complain about it on social media. They say the league helped New England win Super Bowls. They say the league "gave" Peyton Manning a farewell Super Bowl when the Broncos beat heavily favored Carolina a few years back.
A statement this morning from one of the sports books said that Baltimore's loss last night was the biggest win for casinos(The House) in many years...

Regardless, none of those opinions come with any proof of anything illegal. That's just luck. Crazy things happen for absolutely no reason.

If the NFL was scripted, the Houston Texans (Nielsen #7 DMA) wouldn't be less than 6 minutes away from blowing their conference semifinal to the Chiefs (#32)

But Mahomes gets a bigger media push than the Texans' Watson, so the fix may be in order here to get a "name" QB into the conference final now that Brady is out of the picture.

I can't believe this thread has gone on so long!

Which ignores the fact that if the fix was in, Brady would still be playing.

No, the NFL needed a way to nudge Brady out of the spotlight and create a new postseason superstar. So, the Pats took a dive against the Titans while .... wait a minute!

THERE. IS. NO. FIX!

Even if the game were "fixed", that would not guarantee that a player wouldn't drop a pass, or a QB make a bad throw, or someone trip over someone else and not get a long run, or a snap being bad, or someone getting injured. There's a lot of the actual physical gameplay that the NFL couldn't control, even if they wanted to "make" one team win.

Plus NFL athletes are WAY too competitive. If they went from college to the NFL and were told it was like the WWE and you don't control if you win or not, many players would quit playing a lot sooner and let the word slip out that it is fake.

I'd start wondering if the "fix" was in if the Super Bowl turns out to be a rematch of the first: Chiefs vs. Packers (Mahomes vs. Aaron Rodgers).

And with it being on Fox and IMO Rodgers being another player Joe Buck and Troy Aikman drool over. Plus the State Farm promotional connections.

If I was Fox I'd be praying for at least one Top 10 market in the SB. They're going to get the State Farm ads regardless of who's in the game.
