Is the Q104.3 Top 1043 countdown rigged?

How the hell does Stairway to Heaven get the number 1 spot every single year? Also, why did the countdown run so late this year? I gave up and went to bed at around 1:15 am and they were only on number 12!!!!

During the 2021 edition of the Top 1043, weekend jock Ian O'Malley related a story from his days at WNEW-FM in the 1980s-1990s.
While musing whether "Stairway To Heaven" would repeat again at #1 (on Sunday when they were in the Top 100 or so),
Ian mentioned that for one of the WNEW-FM countdowns ("Firecracker 400", "Firecracker 500", "Top 1027"), he was looking down the list and saw what he thought was an error.
He found out that the station's new program director ("who shall remain nameless") wanted to put his "stamp" on the countdown
(and the station) by placing "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who at #1.
(I *do* remember hearing this particular countdown "live from NY" and being shocked at the result.
I'm sorry I can't place the exact year - guessing early-1990s; I'll do a little research and see if I can find it.)
O'Malley said that the PD in question shortly moved on from 'NEW-FM and "order was restored" in subsequent years.

I remember DJ friends telling me that a certain station in the Cleveland area would do their "500 Greatest Songs as chosen by listeners" This should tell you how long ago: "Send us your top 3 picks on a postcard to and we'll agitate, cogitate, mix-up, stir around, employ mathematicians, throw 'em in a barrel and play them from #500 to #1 over the Memorial Day/July 4th/Labor Day weekend." They said it was a joke because the "powers that be" at the station had already decided what was going to be the top 50 songs played regardless of what the listeners chose. So yeah, I think most are a scam. Over the years, it dropped from 500 to 300 to 200, guess so they could jam more commercials in. Hey! Maybe they should do a "Top 500 of Your Favorite Commercials" holiday countdown.
