Is the "Spirit" coming to Atlanta?

Thats the million dollar question. Today(November 23rd) Cox flipped Tulsa Rocker KTRQ to Christian AC as Spirit 102.3. And from the way it looks this could be the next format they might try out in other markets, and Atlanta looks like a possibility if it does well. Any thought?

Seems to me there is already too much saturation of that format here with Victory, J and the Fish both doing pretty much what Spirit probably is doing. <P ID="signature">______________

Tulsa has a heritage Christian AC that does have some signal issues and I guess Cox figured they could take some of the ratings away from Christian AC KXOJ and secular AC KBEZ to help make their AC KRAV the dominate AC station in Tulsa. This has to be a flanker station much like 97.1 is here to take numbers away from V 103. Cox won't be launching Christian AC here in Atlanta because the whole Atlanta region is covered with 2 high quality stations with good signals to a lot of people from Columbus to Macon to Athens to Gainesville to Marietta.

Although I don't think WFOX is long for the world, I have to agree with you that they won't be going to a Christian format with The Fish and J-93.3 in the market along with a few non-comms. However, I would have to agree that Cox is probably testing the waters with CCM in Tulsa. When you look at how many stations they have in the Bible Belt, it would only make sense. After all, they have San Antonio, Houston, Birmingham, Greenville and Richmond. In the first three of those five markets, they have at least one struggling station. Not certain about my hometown, but Houston's KSBJ is extremely successful and would be a top-10 station, and Birmingham has a successful CCM station in WDJC. There's definitely a market out there, and Cox is unquestionably interested.
