Is the term oldies fading?

One of our stations used to have the slogan "Good times and great oldies." Now a different station under the same PD, uses "good times and great classic hits." Is the term oldies fading?

Not really, a classic rock station in San Francisco dropped the format 18 months ago for classic hits and bills themself as "Oldies 103.7"

The term "oldies" sure seems to be taboo at WMXJ Miami-Ft. Lauderdale.

There are still stations that use "Oldies" in their slogan, but not near as many as used to be.

Then why might this station use classic hits instead of oldies?
Probably because the last station in San Francisco that called themselves "classic Hits" (106.9 KFRC) flamed out so that moniker is taboo around here for a while. CBS did a poor job on the station (A's baseball, weak signal, and the same 'ol burnt to a crisp hits).

Oldies is a brand name just like Coke is... classic hits means NADA At the very least i would say Good times and the GREATEST Hits of all time

I think I'd just say "The greatest hits of all time." It does seem a little weird that KMCQ is doing it with classic hits and KBSG, which KMCQ is supposed to be modeled after, said oldies. KMCQ is even using the same jingle package.

Oldies 1150 is still around.

WBBG-FM in Youngstown/Warren, OH used to call themselves Big 106.1 Youngstown/Warren's Greatest Hits but recently they changed their branding to "Oldies 106.1" with new jingles and a new website.

No doubt about it, Oldies is slowly making a comeback.

If that's true, then how is the brand defined? There are lots of us who consider '50s & early '60s music to be "oldies". But we certainly don't hear that music on commercial radio anymore.

Give or take on a few local AM's.........it's pretty much gone. SAD!
