Is the Wave in store for a fromat change?

I have heard rumors that the Wave may flip to an AC station. I have also heard that the Wave may flip to an FM talk station.

Hopefully this isn't true becuase I listen to the Wave in my car all the time.

I like the Wave very much, but since we're speculating wildly here... how about something like 94.7 KMET. :D

I keep hearing the billing is pretty good vs. other Smooth Jazz stations around the country so they probably won't change for awhile. That said, should they change, I say they flip to AC and go head-to-head against KOST or simulcast All News KNX on 94.7 like CBS did in SF with KFRC-FM/KCBS-AM.

Going from Smooth Jazz to AC wouldn't help them. AC is also skewing 45+ in the diary. A Hot AC to go up against KBIG would probably be a better play.

CBS has three very healthy stations ratings wise with KAMP, KROQ, and JACK. However, KTWV and KRTH skew old an struggle to make the top 10 25-54.

With that said, I've heard KTWV is still billing - and for that reason alone, I sure wouldn't blow it up.

If CBS really wanted to blow up a station it would most likely be KCBS-FM. They don't care what goes on at that station...

How did you come to this conclusion?

Jack is consistently in the top 3 or 4 in 25-54 in LA, and is CBS' leader in the sales demos.

I am sure they care a whole lot about this station... it's their second highest FM biller in the whole group... and the 13th highest biller in the US.

That was just based on assumption. I remember reading an RBR report in Febuary saying how KCBS or KLSX (at the time) was in danger of flipping, and it gave the declining numbers in some of the demos. I'm going to try and find the link...

KLSX was the victim of change, while KCBS got extensive new research. KCBS moved quickly into the top couple of positions in the sales demo of 25-54, and Amp moved into a significant position in 18-34. This discussion was over 6 months ago.

How about 94.7 The Wave becoming 94.7 The Quiet Storm is that a good idea since the station is leaning towards more of the KBLX format Smooth R&B.

I mean if CBS HAD TO flip a station, which one do you think they would flip?

For the FMs, obviously the answer would be seen in the trending in 25-54 or 18-54. That puts The Wave under the microscope. As radioresearcher said, as long as billings hold up, the risk is low.
