Is The WRKO/Celtics Agreement Firmed-Up??

It was recently reported in Boston Radio Watch that WRKO-680 was close to becoming the new radio home of the Boston Celtics.

I don't know if the contract has been signed yet.

If it has been, I think the reason it was not made public was due to the possibility that the NBA's labor agreement with it's players would expire after the current NBA Finals, and that the 2005/2006 season could have been delayed, interrupted, or cancelled due to a lockout.

But yesterday (June 21st), it was announced that a tentative labor agreement between the NBA and it's players had been reached, which will insure that the 2005/2006 season will start as scheduled.

Now that the threat of a lockout in the NBA has ended, I think WRKO and the Celts may make that public announcement of their new partnership. I think the two entities decided to wait until a new labor agreement was announced.

Joseph, I would much rather The Celtics/Boston Red Sox in stereo.
This would be the perfect fit for WBCN. I wasn't sold on them handling
The Patriots and it actually sounds very good on FM.

Too bad Entercom doesn't consider simulcasting - can you imagine
The Celtics on WRKO and MIKE FM simultaneously!

Well, it's too bad for you that they never really developed the market for AM Stereo. If they had, you could've had your dream on AM Stereo sports stations. Music on WJIB sounds amazing on a wideband AM Stereo receiver.

Analog AM Stereo will be going the way of the dodo due to IBOC anyway, as they are not compatible, save for a few scattered holdouts across the country such as WJIB and, so far, WLYN in this area.

Something tells me CBS Radio ran a World Series in stereo back in the 70's?

Even tho I am not a sports fan, I think it would be interesting to hear
a hockey game in stereo.

WRKO was promoting itself as the new home of the Celtics today 6/23

It's official now. Wonder if games start at 7 or 7:30 (in Eastern Time zone
cities)? If it's at 7 and they're doing a pre-game show, it might chop a half hour off Howie Carr's show--unless they do the unusual concept of having the pre-game
on _EEI_ then saying "now switch to AM 680 for tonight's game".
