Is there a radio out there...?

That is just as sensitive and effective but not so bulky as the Super radio GE 3 or better? I'd like to get one with a built in speaker and thats not so bulky.
Thanks.

I don't own the DEGEN 1103 aka Kaito 1103...there's a lot of discussion about it on the net... AM/FM/LW/SW, PLL w/ "fake analog dial," SSB, signal strength meter, narrow/wide switch, size = 4" x 6" x 1", external jacks, etc.

***Does anyone have any comments on the DEGEN/Kaito 1103 ???***

***Does the DEGEN 1103 compare to the GE Superradio as far as sensitivity and selectivity for AM?***

Edited by tom:
For the 1103, AM wide band mode is <6kHz
The AM narrow band mode is < 4kHz.

***How does this compare to the GE Superradio bandwidths???***

The last time I posted a commercial link it got deleted so perhaps this is against the rules for this board? My apologies. I guess the yahoo forums are better for this. Radio Intel has reviews but maybe their reviewers are paid.

You should get A Grundig S350! Its a wonderful radio(I Think)and has great sensitivity, but better on FM Than AM compared to GE Super Radio III

Also, the wind up analog portable FM/MW/SW (or, recharged w/ AC) Grundig FR-200 has excellent sensitivity and selectivity for AM, but not very good for FM. It has a powerful ~2" speaker and some newer models are "waterproof."

The FR-200 is my all time favorite radio for AM reception from remote locations, with better sensitivity than the portable Sangean/Realistic AM/FM/TV model discussed earlier. Actually, they are companions for me...using the handheld Sangean can verify the frequency on the analog FR-200 with the digital readout.

I'm not sure how the FR-200 compares to the S350 and GE Superradio for AM, but certainly the others are better for FM.

Re: Is there a radio out there...Edited

I can direct you to a radio which is about the same size as the Superadio, is much more sensitive and selective, has a several position attenuator switch to prevent overloading (no AGC), and comes with a signal meter of certified accuracy. At 5½ KGm (12 Lbs), the is heavier than the Superadio and it costs <a target="_blank" href=http://www.pi-usa.com/fimcatg.htm> a few thousand dollars more, but you absolutely get what you pay for. I have worked with them and swear by them.
