Is there a true CHR network?

I know a lot of stations who claim to be CHR and are on a network like ABC, CBS, whatever. It seems like most of them are Hot AC though. Are there any national 24/7 networks that when they say "Today's best music," or Today's hottest hits or whatever, they truly have a playlist that reflects that? Just a random question.

Nope. All the national satellite services are Hot ACs.

I think the last one was ABC's the Heat(I remember hearing that on 99.3 in Bakersfield in 91-92) I don't know when ABC specifically discontinued that one. Prehaps even CHR satellite feeds cost too much to run, or they just don't work as teenagers love to call in and talk to jocks.

But that works fine for Open House Party. Someone could just expand that concept to a full day.

I think the biggest problem is lack of demand. If you're in a tiny market with no ratings, how do you sell such a teen-heavy format? And is there even demand for hit music in such markets?

The closest is the Jones Hot AC network. They mix in enough rhythmic tracks to make it at least borderline. They keep the non rhythmic hit based.<P ID="signature">______________

I remember one that was a non-comm CHR network. I believe it was called "Channel One" or something like that. If I'm not mistaken the college station out of Bemidji, MN used to use it. I doubt it's still on as I can't find any information on it. ABC's CHR THE HEAT evolved into THE BEST HITS W/O THE HARD ROCK AND RAP unfortunately. I used to listen to it out of Fredericksburg/Washington D.C. (South) WGRQ - Colonial Beach, VA back in the early 90s. Used to love those liners they produced.

There are some markets where maybe you're a rimshot station in a rated market that doesn't have CHR. In situations like this a satellite CHR could bring in some real $.
