Is there about to be another format flip for Cumulus-Nashville?

Hmm, well the WRQQ website is down, so something is probably going on.

I think Classic Hits 97.1 is a GREAT station, if you listen for one day. But if you tune in for day #2, you'll hear the exact same songs. :(

Is there a difference between Classic Rock or Classic Hits and the way Cumulast does either format? It will likely become a Classic-Rock-Hits-Oldies-80s station.

Format number 215. Turn the station off or let SCC run it so it will work. Thanks, though for letting us hear Freebird for the 100th billionth time during Friday drive. What a disappointment.

Judging from the house full of 14 - 16 year old girls attending my daughters highschool musical premier party tonight, there has to be a format there? Talking about the Disney cash cow!

Nock

I honestly have always wondered how Disney radio could not be more successful. Even if they just used the branding.

Hmmnnnn, do we need another Jack format? That is what a classic-rock-hits and 80s music station is you know? That would be just another Jack type deal. Spare us that please!!

Yeah no question about that, but in all fairness, isn't much of radio just like this these days? Same ole same ole. 97.1 was not the only station in Nashville or anywhere across the great USA that was ramming the same ole same ole songs down our throats. The only breath of fresh air on that station was Jake Wilde's Deep Cuts show on Sunday evenings.

Have you already forgotten the Toledo arrival, and from whence he came? A step back into his past is our step forward...

Meanwhile, on another note, some employees of more than one local cluster met at a nearby Wendy's...

From what I hear on the streets, the change will be to "Eagle 97.1". Because that will fix everything.

At the risk of making someone in this forum angry, what is it about big corporate radio hot shots that makes these guys think that a snazzy name (The Eagle The Wolf The Beaver or whatever), morning show hosts that laugh hysterically when nothing funny has been said, what is it about corporate radio that these things I mention keep going on and on and on?

Not to be overly critical here, but snazzy names for the stations, morning hosts that chuckle and laugh make a radio station NOT. I think it is clever musical programing that makes a great music formatted radio station. These others things such as station names or morning hosts are just the proverbial icing on the cake. JMO!!!

The music is too repetitive, but I don't think SCC would do any better running it. The reason SCC has been successful is because they haven't had any real competition in formats. When they've had real competition, their numbers haven't been as high. I've worked for SCC and for Clear Channel and despite its many problems, I'd rather work for CC any day. Fortunately, I work for neither one now. :)

If 97.1 would be given time to make a format work, they might find a niche. Changing or tinkering every few months won't help anything.

Did anyone in this forum besides me ever listen to 97.1 on Sunday evenings when the Deep cuts program was on? The show was local and the show was programmed by Jake and his callers. Other than myself, did anyone else ever listen to this show? If so, did you all enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed the show>?You got to hear album rock cuts and rock cuts long forgotten by current modern day radio, which I guess why I enjoyed the show so much.It Made listening to radio fun again.

When I talk about some kind of programming other than the same ole same ole, Deep cuts is exactly what I mean by this.

"Snazzy names" and morning shows laughing at not-funny stuff are not the creations of "corporate radio". Why is it that any radio station owned by one of the bigger groups not doing well has anything to do with ownership? There are top-ranked stations owned by the majors and lower tier dogs owned by smaller operators- everywhere. Get off the "if it's owned by a big group, they suck" kick. It's a sign of being frustrated, bitter and mediocre in talent.

Does anyone think it could be an oldies station again? Maybe with Scott Shannons True Oldies Channel (which is really good). Also, I can't remember who said it earlier in this topic but a radio disney in Nashville doesn't sound like a half bad idea. Plenty of selling power!

Highly unlikely, as their contract with Bob & Tom specifies that they air on a Classic Rock to Rock format.

apples/oranges...but Bob and Tom were on 102.9 during one of their many variations of country...
Power Country...or PC103...(after Zebra 102.5 became "The Party")
I know that has nothing to do with current the contract with 97.1...
but consider it a "fun fact you should know".

Thanks Mr. Obvious...you;re a lifesaver

How about Bob and Tom mornings followed by Disney rest of the day. Kind of similar to the train wreck that has been on that frequency since day 1.
Somebody needs to just stick with something unless part of the strategy is to give the listener something new every 6 months. :-\
