Is there an Oldies in the wind for Greensboro

Rumor has it there could be an Oldies station in the Triad soon. Anybody hearing anything about this .. my sources were somewhat hush hush but could it be Buzzard?

I was told the same thing a few weeks ago, and asked the same person late last week and they said to still expect one but wouldn't say when. The Buzzard is logical to me..

Back when Oldies 93 was on the air they duplicated close to 30% w/ WMAG .... do you think CC would program another station that could potentially hurt WMAG? CC history shows they get rid of competition, not create it. I miss having an Oldies format so I hope one comes on the air .... I would have thought Gig Hilton would have made the move .... if he changed early he could have benefitted from all the buzz over format change, now if someone changes to Oldies they will have to market it a lot more.

No matter who or where Oldies may arise, you'll still have to market it a ton, with heavy tv and billboards. And could Simon be swinging that direction? Awful lot of older material seems to have been playing lately. I mostly listen afternoons and nights and there definitely appears to have been an older lean.

I ;Dntresting stuff on the Oldies Deal here. Ya'll are all missing the boat here. There will... I think... real soon be another oldies station in the Triad Market. Just stay tuned. As we set closer to the date I'll fill you in some more. Details on the way STAY TUNED.......

yes i sure wish i had an FM stick to put it on. i don't see it as damaged goods, $$$ to be made.

but somebody should have struck while the iron was hot, i think.

Sometimes other things have to fall into place first. News should serfice later this week then the picture will be painted I think....'

Manwhore-(wow it freaks me out to type your name!) Don't you imagine that Entercom is trying to capture some of the Oldies audience on Simon? God knows they need ratings help! I think that's what they're doing in playing the older music. Guess it was worth a shot if no one else is going Oldies. I did hear some rumblings today, however, that someone might do it soon. Hope they plan on marketing!

Simon is def. trying to move up 5 years in thier presentation. Across the country the Simon type stations are dying out as we are seeing here in the Triad. Simon will probably move into the wave format as is the new trend on some from some of the old SImon stations have done in some larger markets. WMAG right now is the big winner in the Oldies arena. I have noticed them shift some more upbeat songs into thier rotation over the past few days.

I think htere is still a continder for an Oldies station in the market.

Time will tell.......

Once again, RadioChickGSO is right on. It ain't gonna be WMAG! They're not going to do anything that will upset the Cash Cow! And, it won't be Entercom. Who's left? Hmmmmmm...

Well the rumors are still rolling around the Triad. The CC thing of not creating a competitor for WMAAG is interesting especially since they blew up Oldies in both Raleigh and Charlotte. WTHZ has to be looking at this! Agree they wil need to launch advertising but the audience 93 left behind is certainly looking for a home. What could a station hope to gain by making the switch is fairly obvious .. ratings and revenues!

Hitz94 seems most likely...heck, they've already got the name which could very easily become "Classic Hitz 94" and they haven't upset the apple cart too much!

Hitz would be good because it would get Charlotte too and it is without an Oldies station as well.

CC has both Oldies and AC in some markets, I know they did in Raleigh and Charlotte and they still do in Va. Beach if I remember correctly. Oldies would be welcome on 100.3!

It is about the money, guys!

94.1 is the most obvious choice and it could improve their revenue picture greatly! There are a lot of local dollars in the Triad Market (and I would assume Charlotte) that could be attracted to the format. I'd hire Max and some of the other Oldies 93 folks and run with it!

Gotta be more active and visable than 94.1 has been of late!

Hitz would be the logical choice ... just add "Classic" to Hitz 94 and you're in the game ... btw, my deal with Entercom did not include a non compete ... all the best from the beach!

I can't get Hitz 94 here because WRSN's signal overpowers it, but that would probably be my pick. I just hope this particular UNC affiliate doesn't get completely butchered like CC has done to not one, but two different affiliates here in the last two years (WTRG two years ago and WRDU now). This would be WTHZ's chance to stick it to both CC and Entercom, if their signal does indeed also reach Charlotte. Let's see how this plays out...

Going by the signal pattern, WTHZ is more of a Charlotte than Triad station...WRSN makes it extremely hard, if not impossible at times to pick it up in parts of Greensboro. Charlotte needs Oldies desperately too!
