Is there an Oldies in the wind for Greensboro

Don't think HITZ would spend the bucks it would take to market a change to Oldies.
No matter who does it it will be very cost intensive out of the box. It's not like there's a big box full of people desperately scanning the dial each day looking for an Oldies station. The very people you'd want to target are the ones whose listenings patterns are the most difficult to influence.
And in the case of HITZ that would actually have them sharing more musically with Simon, MAG and KRR than they do now. They have the HOT AC game to themselves in 2 markets, they just don't market themselves worth a damn.

How bout WZTK????? Hun.... Logical Dr Smith..... Money to market.... good signal in the old Oldies Coverage area... and if they end up with WSJS... why 2 news talk stations...... so is Z Man crazy?????
;D

Fun idea. What if 102.9's format moves to 101.1...then oldies is on in two markets. Coverage to the east of Raleigh would be minimal but its an interesting idea. Sure beats banging their heads in talk. No chance Curtis gets WSJS though.

ZTK, Hits 94 - no matter who does it, they will have to pick one market and concentrate on it! Just can't promote in two different markets without dumptrucks loaded with money. They would be well off picking one and working to win that battle. Spillover from either Charlotte or Raleigh could add to the mix later in the life of the station.

In the beginning, I say pick Greensboro because the oldies crowd is still looking for their station. In a few more months, they will have bought XM, or gone back to 8-tracks!

And in the case of HITZ that would actually have them sharing more musically with Simon said:
Even if they marketed the station, it's not a very good hot ac. Musically they are all over the place and have a weak playlist. If they flipped to oldies they'd own the franchise. I am told that oldies 93 made nearly 5 million dollars last year without really trying.

Hitz 94 plays through your microwave in Winston-Salem. Just open the door when you want music in the kitchen. :D I can remember when I lived there. I would hear WWGL on the computer speakers when the computer was off; on cable channels 2-7 and on the AM band between 1330-1370. It could overtake WPOL on a Sony radio I had. ;D Drive east to Greensboro and 93.9 cut-in on the weak signal and it was almost non-existant in neighboring Randolph County. In Charlotte it sounded great in the north metro when I lived in Charlotte. On a car radio to the south it is fine. If you live in Winston-Salem, the signal quality of 104.7 in northern Winston-Salem is the signal quality of 94.1 in north Charlotte.

I do agree it would be nice for Charlotte if it was WTHZ. Like I said before, trips to South 21 aren't the same without Magic 96.1. :( Since they love the Charlotte audience along with the Triad, they should consider it. Not sure if I would go that direction though? Keep in mind the heritage of Oldies 93 won't go to the next signal. It won't make the same revenue and same numbers at a new signal. For some it's just not Oldies 93. You may have a chance if you can bring back all the personalities. I would of course try to make it sound like the old WTOB. Winston-Salem-Lexington-Yadkinville-Danbury is your main Triad audience served by this signal. Salisbury-Kannapolis-Statesville is your main Charlotte market audience. I would love to see a Longley-Rice model for Hitz 94. I'm surprised they haven't tried All Hit Z-94 with the Morning Zoo, to take on WKZL. Someone (judging from the calls) is a fan of Z-100. ;D

Now that's an interesting idea. KZL is brutally vulnerable despite their great numbers. Bloated aging morning show (who used to be incredible), lame the rest of the day.
Maybe I'm just too young for oldies. I find 94's music a great mix of current pop and 80's. Then again, I guess 80's ARE oldies nowadays. But I love the Chili Peppers, Hinder, and the treadmill song.

You know you are right about KZL and the burned out morning show. my sources tell me that Jack (the 50 plus male) is getting rid of Josie (the 24 year old who is the audience) because she is "aging out of the demo". WTF?

The people at Hitz just need to throw in the towel...it's not going to get any better if they keep running it like they are. Oldies would be the logical choice.

Murphy is probably getting rid of Josie because he marginalizes every woman on the show, not because of her age or anything else. He will move Katie (the younger chickie) into Josie's spot, then get an 18-year-old intern, hire her for the show for a couple years and then move her into Katie's spot when he is done marginalizing her. See? It's a good system. I also find his relationship with BFF Josh to be a little disturbing.

I think Hitz 94 will make the switch to oldies. And not a bad move, if I say so myself.

It's not Hitz, trust me on that one!

Is it AM or FM? If it's not Entercom, and not Clear Channel, the only other one I can think of would be WIST.

I don't know EXACTLY what station it is. I just know it's not Hitz! However, I would venture to say that it's FM.

I THINK, now keep in mind, this is only THINK, that's its WZTK. If I remember right, the signal was kind of scratchy in parts of Winston-Salem, but it covers Greensboro very well and even parts of the Triangle. It would only makes sense for them to do something like this now.

First Charlotte lost it's Oldies outlet, then the Triangle, now the Triad. We all know they could make more money than they are now as the FM talk station. I personally think it would be a good move for them if marketed correctly. And for goodness sake, don't use the moniker "OLDIES!" One could wonder...

If it IS 101, I personally think it would be absolutely stupid not to use Pat Patterson, since he's right there in the company. He would be the logical choice for morning guy. Maybe they could just change 102.9 to soft AC and try to take Sunny's audience. Lite 102.9?

Y102.9 has already taken some of Sunny's audience.

Pat's in SALES now. He likes money.
Like Rick Dees says, "it's not about money, it's about the amount".

Besides, who's gonna fall for that Hiney Wine stuff besides people
named Goatboy and Surfdude?

Is Z-Man crazy? Hmmmmmmmm! :D I vote for WZTK. The News/Talk thing just isn't taking off for them. Just don't think Hitz94 is going to spend the bucks to do it and market it. Someone will have to. Could be a really good move for them. It will pretty much leave Winston-Salem's Oldies listeners behind, though. ZTK just doesn't have the WS signal.

Nobody knows Patterson in Greensboro.

IMHO, anyone who goes with oldies needs to do it with a more contrmporary presentation. Remember, to keep from going the way of beautiful music, and many oldies stations, they need to do things that can cultivate some younger demos - not teens, but younger than 50.

WZTK's actually got an oldies station in their building, WPCM "Oldies and Beach 920". I could see a simulcast with Y-102.9 and WPCM maybe becoming a simulcast of their talk station WDOX 570 (which is currently being simulcast on WYRN 1480 in Louisburg.)

They could probably attract more ad $$ with the 920 format, but I don't see them dumping NT yet!
