Is there an outage or something?

I was driving to work today with my MyFI. It was in the car cradle, feeding through the tape player.

Everything was fine - full power - and then a burst of weird-sounding static and then total silence.

Now, I have a Cingular phone, and it has thrown out interference to some of my electronics. It was right by the MyFi when this happened. I took the phone away and turned it off.

The display on my MyFi is still updating, so it's still receiving data from the satellites on songs, etc. However, I'm getting no output from the myfi, either through the tape deck or via the FM Transmitter. I even plugged the tape into the headphone jack to get output that way - no go.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have an old school antenna that has a gain of about 0.4dBu...mine is always cutting out. Sounds like something similar...everything is fine, then static, then silence.

No technical basis for this, but what I'm assuming is happening:

1) Full signal and sound
2) Data gets garbled and the decoded audio stream is no longer valid for the decryption key so you hear static instead of the program
3) Silence when you finally lose the carrier

When it recovers, I usually hear a second or two of extremely low quality audio before the sideband data is decoded.<P ID="signature">______________

UPDATE on my outage

This outage was different than the usual drops I have, where there's some quiet static before it goes out. This was a sharp, staccato burst of static.

Anyway, my outage happened at 9:45. I got to work around 10. When I checked my MyFi at 10:30am, it was working fine.

I transferred the MyFi to my company car for a short trip I had to make, using the home antenna on the dashboard (very ghetto, I know) and it still worked fine.

If there are any issues on the way home, I'll keep you abreast. I know my technically difficulties have you glued to your seat.

I've never had the static problem, but occasionally when I power up my SkyFi, and slide in the casette adapter, I get an extremely distorted signal. I usually have to power down, take the receiver out of the car cradle, and go through the whole procedure of putting the receiver back in the cradle, and powering up the unit. It's usually ok from that point on. Strange.
