This board has criticized Talkers Magazine repeatedly in recent threads for alledged inaccurate surveys and/or for potential bias pro-conservative hosts.
While I have NO COMMENTS as to potential bias in ANY of the publications, some of you on the left might conclude that "Radio and Records" is biased. Look at their 2005 talk radio award winners at this link:
http://www.radioandrecords.com/Conventions/TRS2005/awards/index.asp
You'll see awards from the seminar given to Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, Brian Jennings/Citadel, Mark Masters/TRN, Tyler Cox/Salem Radio Network, KFI, KSL, WABC, KFBK, and RUSH LIMBAUGH. On the other hand, Al Franken was there and KGO and its executives got awards.
The question for you, ARE awards given mostly to conservatives REALLY indicative of BIAS? Or, is it just a result of better ratings / revenue / longetivity / entertainment?
I would suggest that the syndicated liberal talkers in aggregate have yet to generate significant ratings and revenue (that is...for Clear Channel, Infiniti, Entercom, etc.). The liberals need to get on larger stations covering not only the city of license but also the suburbs (or vice versa in some cases).
Otherwise, these publications will continue to give awards predominately to conservative hosts. The conservatives are on the 50,000kW ND1/DA1/DA2/DAN stations. Most 50kW stations are OWNED by Conservative networks.
The new kids on the block are Air America and what has evolved from Democracy Radio. They are growing but have a long way to go to catch up with Premeire,TRN,ABC,FOX,Salem, etc. A major obstacle for lib talk is the lack of signal strength. The signals allocated for 50kW day and night often have conservative programming from CC / Infiniti / Entercom / Citadel / etc.
