Is there too much "Talk Radio" programming on the air?

Many consider the "News/Talk" format among the most popular among listeners
across the United States, but is there too much "Talk Radio" programming on the
air?
If you scope out the core of national and local hosts on the stations, how many
are considered "successful" and is there any that stand out among the others?
I would be interested in your comments...

Regardless of what "many consider".... is it? Or is it run by so many stations because it is SELLABLE. Yes, talk radio has good enough ratings to make it sellable, but male entrepreneurial businessmen are suckers for talk radio and sports programming.

When you add up the ratings of all the talk radio in a market, and then add up the ratings of all the music stations, is News/Talk" format the most popular among listeners?

As someone who works for a company that has a "News/Talk" outlet among our
stations, that's a good question, but if you look at the rating numbers for places
like New York & Los Angeles, they don't do too bad, but here where i am, we have
a FM Talker that competes against us and during the spring book they had their
highest ratings ever, but they have two frequencies and lesser power than the
four other "music" stations in our group, that should tell you something.
