Is this a good idea?

They're doing their part to help keep obesity down. Even pressing a button on the remote can help a couch potato burn off 1/1,000,000th of a calorie.

some corporate dink prob thought it was some kind of cool idea.

It makes more sense than them sticking the simulcast of Colin Cowherd's radio show on lowly ESPNU, when he doesn't exclusively talk about college sports.

ESPN2 probably has more homes covered than ESPNNews, so they wanted to get more viewers for the tennis than for watching two oldsters talking on the radio [one of them is trying to eat the mic all the time].

Normally from 6AM-10AM ESPN2 simulcasts the Mike & Mike radio show from ESPN Radio. However this week because of coverage of Australian tennis, Mike & Mike is on 6AM-8AM on ESPNEWS and 8AM-10AM on ESPN2. I really don't get it. Why make the viewer change channels?

Because only two hours of the show are pre-empted on the usual channel, perhaps? It's entirely possible that the audience turnover means that a small portion of the audience watches straight through and thus would have to change channels. They can satisfy the die-hard fans by keeping the early segment on, albeit on a different channel, and the people who tune in during the 8-10 window will still see the show and, if they're so inclined to do it anyway, stick around for whatever comes on at 10. Given the realities of the situation/scheduling, it's a reasonable alternative that doesn't have much downside.

People forget that "Mike & Mike" was originally simulcast on ESPNews before going over to ESPN2.
