I always enjoyed the discussions here, but they seem to have tailed off. Has the page been abandoned?

IMHO, most of the conversation has dropped quite a bit since the "other local markets" moved to the bottom in the most recent redesign of radio discussions.

Or there just may not be much worth discussing in Pittsburgh radio. :)

There isn't much worth discussing in Pittsburgh radio. That "other" Pittsburgh radio discussion forum gets very, very few posts and those all come from the same handful of people whose posts Karl approves.

But think about it, how interesting and discussable is the situation in Pittsburgh radio when the hottest story is Bob Pompeani taking a vacation and Jack Bogut doing a few minutes in afternoon drive time? Perhaps if the folks who used to talk about Pittsburgh radio knew this forum was back then this forum would get more action.

Anyone want to bet that an announcement about this forum being back wouldn't get past the censor on the other forum?

There's you answer right there. This forum is dead because half of the posts are from old man complaining about how his posts don't get on some other forum.

Even the WZUM guys have bailed out on this.

Just for shits and grins, maybe we can get Chris Lash to drop by?

If that's the best possibility of something interesting to talk about in here about Pittsburgh radio, then Pittsburgh radio is in even worse shape than ever!

Yeah, I have to agree with that. Maybe the real issue is that we don't really have personalities anymore- perhaps it's a result of corporate radio. The current structure of the industry removed small market stations as viable "farm teams," and Pittsburgh has gone so far down the totem pole that this is the best we get. Seems like the bulk of the folks that are on the air now are mostly invisible.

I saw those days coming, and that's what made me exit the industry. I'm glad that I did it before I was too old to do something else, but it does remain in your blood, regardless. I am interested in is how other radio refugees think of themselves. I did it for so long that no matter how successful I am, I still always have this voice in the back of my head saying "You are nothing more than a retired disc jockey.... why should anyone listen to anything you have to say?" .

It makes me a little bit sad to hear some of the folks who are in their late 50's and thereabouts-- they probably don't have too many other marketable skills, and I think that must be scary. When you see a guy like Dan Dunlap get whacked-- someone who seemed as though they could legitimately retire from the business-- it just makes you think. Those days are over, I think.

Last time I visited this site, probably a year ago, it said it had ceased operations. I got an e-mail from them on 1/1 (wishing me a happy birthday... and it's not my birthday...).

I think most of the old posters are under the impression it's gone.

You could post an announcement on the Pittsburgh Radio and TV Forum on Voy to let people know. I'm sure Karl would approve it.

Glad to have you back!

The week of Feb 9, 2014 you should have also received an email telling you that we were back. It may have hit your spam/junk folder; many reported that's where they found it.

Please see this post regarding the birthday email you received.

Thanks.

Sad to say, but reading what the current state of radio broadcasting has come to makes having chosen a career in industrial instrumentation and process controls a good decision. I have ham radio to talk on and if I want to play music I'll play it on CB channel 14 like the sponge in Braddock does.

I can't speak of Pittsburgh radio, living below the northern panhandle of West Virginia, but I really enjoy WJPA, 95.3, Washington, PA. Every time we visit our daughter at West Liberty University, south of Wheeling, I make it a point to listen. THAT is a station that should stream! I constantly hear music I've never heard before, and I'm almost 60. What a great way to do real oldies! I would love listening online! We have neighbors that hail from that part of PA, and actually bought their last car from a Washington, PA dealership. Tanger Outlets are there as well.

Wow. Bitter much?

I wonder what it says about Pittsburgh radio that most of the comments are from lurkers who haven't registered here?

Based on what threads are active on the other forum, this is the top news regarding radio in Pittsburgh.

On the air, a talk show host on The Fan accused the producer of picking his nose while he was working.

Someone doesn't like Chris Mack on The Fan.

Stacy Kaufmann does THE FAN sports updates, and someone likes it.

Someone wonders if Jim Quinn will return to the air, but only people who don't like him have their posts approved.

Bill Rehkopf is leaving KDKA.

Someone wants to hear an old show from The Fan.

Someone doesn't like John Phillips on The Fan.

Someone didn't like KDKA's Christmas holiday fill in talent.

So, it looks like the only radio stories in Pittsburgh so far this year are people kvetching or praising people on The Fan or KDKA, or kicking Jim Quinn while he's down.

I'm not making this stuff up. I'm not adding my own personal bias. I'm just posting a summary of what folks in Pittsburgh at talking about regarding radio in Pittsburgh. If you don't believe me, go to the Voy forum yourself and check it out.
