"The Ten Commandments" airing on ABC?

I hear a remake aired last week on the network, and got modest ratings...

Still, I don't know if anyone is airing the 1956 original... You'd think it would turn up on ABC Family at the very least, right?
______________

It aired last night. I guess why they didn't air it on Easter Sunday because they wanted Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy more than to show The Ten Commandments on Easter Sunday. I remember one year when they aired it in two parts(Sunday and Monday a week or two before Easter) and it didn't do all that good in the ratings.

And speaking of The Ten Commandments movie, when did it first air on TV? Has ABC always carried it?

Actually, Grey's Anatomy won't be on tonight (4/16)...a sneak preview of the new show "What About Brian", starring Barry Watson will be on.
Edited by jojo_collins on 04/16/06 06:44 PM.

The movie aired the day before Easter last year too.

Was it really necessary to make a new version too???

I thought Easter began at Sundown?

No, Passover begins at sundown. Easter begins at sunrise!
______________

ABC must have decided they'd rather show several commnadments being broken on Easter instead. :)

I think the not-that-great ratings is the answer to that question.

Saturday vs Sunday Nights

No that's not it at all. It's a ratings winner every year. For ABC, it makes more sense to show it on Saturday night simply because more people can stay up and watch it, compared to Sunday nights, given the 4 hour 44 minutes runtime.

That's true. Also, people complained.

As for how late depended on station -- ABC either offered a 7PM ET or 8PM ET start time, which means the movie ended at 11:44PM or 12:44AM, depending on station.

Re: Saturday vs Sunday Nights

...and whatever it was they planned to air before Moses led the way. In the case of Seattle, KOMO couldn't resist the services of Pat, Vanna and Alex - even though it was a rerun from some months back.

The upside for all concerned: all the commercial time in the first hour was "local avail" time. Not a bad deal when you run the movie that late.

And I didn't even bother with the two-part remake. How can you improve on a classic?

Now, get in the mud pit and dance old man, dance.

Oh, I thought the Christian relgious holidays followed the same rules as the Jewish ones. My apologies...

The studios are now in the business of "re-imagining", remaking, and rehashing movies and shows from the past, whether said production(s) needs it or not. Someone's probably developing re-imagined versions of "M*A*S*H" and "The Wizard Of Oz".
______________

They already did with The Wizard Of Oz. Remember the 1978 movie The Wiz starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross?

Once or twice, didn't ABC air "The Ten Commandments" on Palm Sunday instead of on Easter??

Re: Saturday vs Sunday Nights

WCVB-5 here in Boston aired the movie beginning at 7 P.M.
