Is Time Warner looking at Charter?

A customer at my work that works for Time Warner cable told me that they are most likely going to acquire Charter Communications by next year. Has anyone else heard this? I'm not looking forward to that....I actually like Charter's offerings versus Time Warner So Cal, which I haven't heard too many good things about. Guess there's FIOS still.

I've had both, and I'm actually hoping that Time-Warner does take over. Charter's lineup is good (albeit with more-than-usual technical glitches), but their customer service is unbelievably abysmal. Consumers Reports just put them on the bottom of cable providers for that reason...its a true lesson in frustration. And, at least in some markets Time-Warner invests in their own local news channels. We get local programming from Charter, but they're all infomercials.

Oh wow, they are gonna ruin another company!! (Time warner is crap, nothing good they offer,BELIEVE YOU ME!!))

I've been on Time Warner since just before February 17. Almost no problems. And I pay at the office and deal with the nicest person.

I seem to have the sound and picture go out for 5 seconds during every "Big Bang Theory" but other than that nothing.

I did lose PBS after a storm. If I had known I might have been able to get analog to work, since June 12 hasn't happened. The digital channel gives me fits. But the antenna is turned the wrong way, seeing as how the stations I want are in the other direction.

my main concern is that at least with charter, I just pay for one digital tier and I get all the channels like Fuel, the MTVs, Science Channel, etc... It seems with Time Warner and Comcast if you pay for one tier you get some channels but no the others so if you want all the channels you watch you have to pay for multiple tiers. Plus Charter lets you hook up other TVs in the house direct to set so you don't have to pay for additional rooms but I heard you can't do that with Time Warner.

Time Warner is good where I am as they have a good line-up of channels. As some of the channels they ofter on regular cable you think would be on digital in the higher numbers.

Would TWC buying Charter put TWC over the FCC ownership limits? I know that I remember Comcast making some noise about that but can't recall if anything ever came of it other than a few press releases.

Time Warner buying Charter would gain them a bigger foothold in Southern California. TWC already has a huge chunk of the cable subscriber base from at least Ventura all the way down to San Diego, with Charter and Cox sprinkled in between. In Los Angeles County alone, TWC buying out Charter would cover everyone else but the southwestern corner of the county (Palos Verdes Penisula and Wilmington/San Pedro, which is Cox territory)

I work for Comcast and we took over Charter down in Alabama near Tuscaloosa. Interesting that Comcast is the main cable provider here in ATL, but Charter is available in our north eastern suburbs.

I don't think any company wants to purchase Charter's enormous load of debt in this current climate. Seems like suicide to me. However, if the horror stories I always hear about TWC charging people through the wazoo for basic and sub par service is true then they may go for it and make a mint. I live in Charter country and told them to hit the bricks years ago. Awful awful service and tiered in a way where in order to get most of the channels you might watch you have to buy every tier. I'll spend my $120/month elsewhere Charter. Thanks but no thanks.

I have Charter and I noticed that I've been seeing local ads for "Time Warner Media Advertising" on cable. I thought it was a mistake or something but maybe a deal is already in the works.

I don't pay extra for an additional room.

Look at the thread about misleading messages from cable to see my experience with Charter. In all fairness, I was in a motel and not actually planning to BUY anything ...
