Is Tobin worth it?

I mean really....is Tobin worth $150k a year? He shows up to work after missing 2 weeks on friday cause he wants a contract, and mysteriously 2 more employees get fired. Soon its going to be Chuck and Tobin, Cause they wont be able to afford anyone else.

WPDH is paying John Tobin $150,000 for his services, in the words of the great Zolz...are you kidding me. Wow, I guess the management over there must be losing it. I guess the departure of Karlson and McKenzie really must have put a hurting on their psyche. Since the best radio duo ever in the Hudson Valley departed for Boston, WPDH management has not seemed to get it together. First they made the fantastic decesion to put Reno and Frankenberry on the air, then they decided to get rid of Frankenberry and make it Reno and Tobin, that failed, and Reno of course was the problem. Then they bring back Coop and try to relive the heyday of the mid 90's. It is just one bad decision after another. They just had more lay-offs this past Friday, but yet they are willing to throw this type of money at a washed up hack. The guy who has no value of team. A guy who bailed on his last contract at WPDH to go to Albany to be with the Wolf at WPYX. The guy who abandoned his team for two weeks, to prove he is worth that kind of money. That says a lot for what he thinks about his co-workers. If I were Kricket or Coop, I would be a little pissed by the statement he made by not showing up, saying basically they are not talented enough to do it without him. That the very existance of their careers is based on this guy's willingness to work, based on the fact that everything has to be his way. The same way a twelve-year-old girl would act when not getting her way. Talk about the give me my toys I'm going home. With all that being said, I hope this renewal does not effect the next rounds of cuts to be made. I know some Cumulus stations throughout the country have cut the entire staff on stations other than mornings and it would be absolutely terrible if jocks like Robin Taylor, and Gary Cee losts their jobs because of this ******bag. WPDH would not survive as a station if these guys were the only live show on.
If the John Tobin was worth all that big-market money, he would have landed a job in one a long time ago. His career would have landed him somewhere bigger than that of Albany and the Hudson Valley. The guy claims to be a comic, but yet doesn't seem to headline any comedy clubs. Instead he plays volunteer firehouse's and yet can't seem to sell them out. The whole thing just doesn't make since, but yet that is what it seems the management at Cumulus does best.

John Tobin is not getting paid 150,000.00. It is hard to run a radio station on a shoe string budget. I hate to say this every one has to wake up here. The country is not doing well. The country is in a depression. People are lossing there jobs every. The stock market is not doing good. People are lossing their money in the stock market. Banks are closing. Stores are closing. Car Dealers are shutting their doors. The broadcasting companys are having hard times also. Companys like Cumulus, Clear Channel, Entercom, CBS, and Citadel are having a very hard time now. They have the budgets handed down by the CEO and upper mangerment. I think we all are going to see alot more cut backs with the broadcasting companys.

I hear Clear Channel is going to have more cuts coming there way.

I hate to say ths Obama is not going to fix this in four years.

We are going to see more shows like Rayn Seacreast on 93.3 WBWZ and for some one that does not know how radio works then they think Rayn Seacreast is doing his show Poughkeepise and not from LA just as long they can hear the music they like on the radio other then that they do not care as to who is on. The big companys know that. That is why we are seeing cut backs with Cumulus and Clear Channel here in the Hudson Valley.

Roger, wake-up man. Your are right he does not make $150,000 per year yet. That is what he wants. Right now he is still earning a six digit contract. People do make that much money in radio. It does happen. More at Cumulus than your beloved Pamal though.

A person I know That works at Cumulus Poughkeepsie was unaware anybody else had been let go recently .However people have been let go and part-timers forced to work for minimum wage. Although we don’t know the ratings the Coop & Tobin show gets or more importantly how much income they generate, there is no reason he should not share the pain of the cutbacks others are going through. If Tobin actually is so greedy , selfish , and full of himself, that he is demanding to be paid $$150K WPDH needs to do what they did with Karlson and McKenzie ,let him go, and move on .He is not that good ,in fact I would say he is a has been . Perhaps they need to go in a different direction because Cooper alone or with Cricket would be ugly.

The morning show on WPDH is unlistenable. If these clowns get $4 an hour its too much. Over rated AND awful, that includes the person who each day, commits the crime of impersonating a human being, Zolzer. And Cricket just sits there like most female co-hosts and laughs at everything the men say. When forced to listen to this at the shop, I'm praying for 10 o'clock when Shelly (Robin) comes on. I'd be ashamed to have to follow these wastes of human skin, and would distance myself as far as I could from them. Shelly's record speaks for itself; she's been a staple there for years, and is as pleasant and friendly off the air as she is when she's on. The morning dirtbags could learn from her....

bring it on.....

590buddy ;D

while you guys were arguing over poughkeepsie...

...lew dickey down in atlanta just handed himself another half-mil bonus. um, why?

wanna point fingers at why pdh is in the crapper, start there. emtpy suits from 1500 miles away.

If Tobin brings in plenty of extra dollars from advertisers to his employer, then yes, he does deserve to be paid for it.

Plenty of radio blow hards make ridiculous pay -as it relates to their talent- because they bring in the ad dollars or the cd/product sales

If the employer is making loads more cash because of Tobin, and will lose substantial income if Tobin leaves, they should increase his pay.

There is a reason why Tobin is asking for more. I doubt it's because Tobin has gotten funnier. But it may be justified.

Your right Orator. Everything you said is true and has a point. The only thing that makes said point invalid is sales people and clients are dropping like flies. If you listened to there station right after the first set of cuts they lost a couple of advertisers, mainly BMW of the Hudson Valley, who at the time was the sponsor of the phone line on all the stations in that cluster. Many more clients have since dropped another big client to drop from the whole cluster was Mahoney's one of their other big contacts and the place where WPDH did all there big party giveaways and promotions. With that being said I do not think that more advertising dollars have been brought in, therefore no raise was needed. Sure the ratings are through the roof right now but that is because of the state of morning radio in the valley. Everybody out ther is doing safe radio and is afraid to take chances and make for good programming. The radio here is so bad, I find myself going to iTunes and downloading podcasts from across the country rather than listen to this product Cumulus, Pamal, and CC are putting forward as entertainment.

Lets also talk about the facts as and say if Mark Bulgur and Jack and Andre were on stronger signals, WPDH would not have the numbers they have. WPDH and K104 do well because they are the only stations in the valley listeners can keep on during their entire commute with have to switch to a sister signal or flip to a different station when the one they like gets out of reach. Thats why now I am Ipod all the way or satellite because there is never no changing the station or having to listen to crap.
