Is Top 40 still in the cards for Cox-SA?

Noticed today the transition from their old slogan to perhaps their new slogan-
"The Sound of Today's Magic 105.3"

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they sound like their sister station 97.3 The Coast-Miami. This move will leaves the 80's tunes to KONO. Leaving 90's and 2000's on Magic. Btw, both stations are similar with exception of the 80's on Magic.

I've been longing for Magic to drop the 80s forever and I hope they eventually do. I wish they would become like the mix in Houston with just 90s and now or 2000s and today. Also, take away the Mariah Carey and boys to men stuff. Like Sirius xm's The Pulse. I miss that station from when I could afford satellite radio.

Magic has definitely decrease the number of 80's songs played. Lately, it's been one to maybe two 80's songs per hour.

Played this morning in the 5am hour-

YES!!!!!

Also heard over the weekend, Crazy in Love by Beyonce ft. Jay Z.

Agreed. Magic is sounding much better and more current. Also looks like Cox is shifting more 80s over to KONO. That station is still sounding great, even with the increase in 80s music but without completely ditching the late 60s-early 70s era.

KISS...sigh. Is it 1995 all over again? Because that's how they're sounding right now.

I was in Houston last Wednesday for a day, and coming back to Austin via Megabus, around the 5:30 pm rush hour (takes 1 hour to get from Houston to Katy now used to take 40 minutes back in 1986.) I listened briefly to Houston's Mix 965 (I think they are going to flip formats this year) I heard very dance intensive songs, totally different mix than Austin's Mix 94.7 Makes me wonder if they are going to go back to Energy and move their 95.7 HD-2 onto 96.5

Hot 95.7 sounds so much like 98.5 The Beat with it's Rhythmic fare. After listening to the 2 stations for about 10 minutes my dial went back to Majic 102.1 with Jeff Garrison (who has been around forever, along with Candy Eastman mixing up the Old School) I heard Cameo's Rigor Mortis (Haven't heard that in ages on a radio station, not even on Jammin!) Marco Spoon came up next and we were nearing San Felipe Frydeck and I-10.

So it wouldn't really surprise me if Mix flips to Energy with a Dance format on 96.5 and 95.7 goes head to head with 97.9

If KONO gets too much 80's and sounds like The Point, I probably will only listen to WOAI, KKYX, and KTSA

It appears that Magic has finally dropped the "80's, 90's & Today's" slogan and replaced with "Today's Best Music".

I heard that yesterday as well. 104.9 had a game on, and 105.7 played some EDM tune.
Reception of the SA stations was very good last night, picked up Radio Ola, and 93.3 K-BUC no longer has the hum in the right speaker.
102.3 came in good, and so did 103.1, and 104.1. I now know when a plane is going to pass by because I hear the air traffic controller over 105.7 (Used to hear that on 106.7) "clear for takeoff" 5 seconds later the plane comes by.

I remember when Mix 96.1 used to use the "Today's Best Music" slogan.

Looks like Cox has a memory deficit. Guess they woke up and found out it wasn't 2000 anymore?

Cox isn't known for making changes or tweaks, especially when something works. They've used "all new" on some stations for years, maybe even decades.

Such as the "New 93Q" in Houston, which they've been using for over 20 years, or "The New" 106-9 The Point, which stayed "new" for about 10 years. Almost all the way until it flipped to alternative, then classic rock, a couple years ago.

I recall a Spanish language Mexican regional format that was simply called "La Nueva" , i.e. The New One. And yes they called it that for years.

The change has been taking an ongoing thing. And it appears the more current they go, the better the numbers.....

KLNV "La Nueva" since 1999 in San Diego.

KISF "La Nueva" since 1999 in Las Vegas

KHOT "La Nueva" since 1999 in Phoenix.

KSCA "La Nueva" in Los Angeles 1997 to 2011
