Is TPIR over with Rosie?

The newest buzz in the TPIR world is that Rosie wants the job and Bob said he thinks she should get his old job.

Is this the end of our beloved TPIR and is Bob endorsing her on purpose to kill off the show?

While I doubt Rosie gets the gig--this is just hype stirred up by people who can't understand a simple comment does not a decision make--for the sake of argument, if she does, I know I would be finished with the show. As for everyone else, who knows...I leave that up to them.

As for Bob trying to "kill" the show, that's absurd. He expressed an opinion. There's not a single reason to believe he's not being sincere in his opinion, or that he has some demented interest in killing off the show. He's retiring--that doesn't mean he doesn't wish those who remain behind well.

Sheesh, not everything is a conspiracy.

It's the end of TPIR regardless of who the new host is. Rosie is merely the worst of a bad list of candidates. Let the affiliates have the hour.

Rosie is not Right for the TPIR.

HOWEVER, if she keeps here opinions to herself... She MIGHT BE!
Rosie is meeting with CBS execs this week, Bob wants here. So it might be a done deal.

Think of it this way....
Remember how controversial a character Ellen Degenerous was in mid 90s?
Well, a few days ago, she swept the Emmys.

So, I take it back, lets not count Rosie out too quickly here.

All Bob is quoted as saying is she could do it--not that he doesn't believe the other candidates couldn't or that she should automatically get the job just because she could do it. Big difference.

Moreover, while I'm sure Bob's opinion is respected, no one has said CBS is beholden to that opinion.

Rosie was quoted as saying that she wants the job and has been in contact with executives from TPIR. On a personal note I just can not fathom the idea of Rosie as host; maybe a few years ago when she acted like a nice person on camera, but not lately with her tirades on The View. Whoever is selected to replace Barker will have some big shoes to fill.

Bad analogy. But, nice try.

Ellen Degeneres was "controversial" about a single issue: that she was (very publicly) a lesbian. She came out of the closet and we never heard the end of it. By the way, you may recall that her show tanked when it became TOO lesbian oriented. People were sick of hearing about it by then. Personally, I think that the public (at large) was simply tired of Ellen because she became a one trick pony. Which was bad for her career.

Since that time, Ellen has kept a lower profile and tends to steer clear of political issues. She concentrates on her talk show and her dry wit. She's actually quite pleasant and entertaining on TV - and you aren't made to feel you're at a political rally when you're watching her either. Sure, we all know what her leanings are - then again, how rare is a liberal in Hollywood anyhow? :D

But, she does a pretty good job of keeping herself out of politics. Yes, Ellen was most famous for being what she is - and we've generally moved on. It's become a big "so what?"

Rosie, on the other hand, has made herself into a lightning rod. She has been SO outspoken, SO political, SO loud, SO nasty and SO wildly opinionated that there is no way that she can host a show without said show becoming a political football. Many of the things that she has said have been so controversial that the cannot be forgotten by a large chunk of the audience. The audience either loves her or hates her.

No, there is no way that she can host a show such as TPIR without ailenating much of the audience. It would be sad to see TPIR, which has been an apolitical bastion for years, turn into the kingdom of a loudmouthed ultra-lefty. Really, its on par with having Rush Limbaugh as the new host of TPIR - except even Rush isn't as much of a bloviator as Rosie. She seems to be a very unpleasant person (politics aside) and is very unlikeable. She is also a very controversial figure and that controversy has gone too far for her to pretend to be neutral in any way. Her career would be better served by hosting her own talk show. This way, her audience knows what to expect before tuning in and she can become the "hero" of those of a certain political and social stripe.

"TPIR with Rosie" is a bad, bad idea. Suicide, really.

Frankly, I think that Rosie is far too masculine for the job.

I was talking about this 6 weeks ago and some people on the board laughed at the idea, told me I was nuts.Laughed some more and now its out there.
Personaly I don't like Rosie at all but her bubbly personality I think would be a good fit for The Price is right.

Personally, I think she already has the job. Here's why.

1. Note the time she leeft The View.
2. She would love to do it.
3. Bob likes her.
4. I dont have proof of this one but I did hear that when she was leaving The View she said she had another job offer oposite The View.
All the pieces of the puzzle are there.
Go figure.

Here's a link to the thread I originally stated this on May 6th.

Rosie is a polarizing figure. On a show like The View it helps bring in an audience as she battles it out with the other women. On a show like TPIR, it will just drive away some loyal viewers who can't stand her and may not attract any new viewers.

Personally, I'd like to see them give the job to John O’Hurley from Family Feud. I think he's got just the right disposition for the job.

Umm, were they ever with Rosie in the first place though? As far as I know they already rejected Rosie last December and all this continuing speculation remains baseless really.

I remember reading a story about the new NBC Entertainment boss, who mentioned the possibility of giving Rosie a show opposite The View - but on his network.

My guess is that Bob Barker does not have as big a say in who his successor will be as everyone thinks. Going back 15 years, Johnny Carson had said Letterman should take over the "Tonight Show" instead of Leno. If NBC didn't listen to the late night king, why would CBS listen to the daytime game show king?

Bu to echo most of the sentiments on this topic, for the love of god, NO ROSIE! And Bob, what have you been smoking anyway? CBS must have got you some of the good stuff as a retirement present!

"On a personal note I just can not fathom the idea of Rosie as host; maybe a few years ago when she acted like a nice person on camera, but not lately with her tirades on The View."

The TPIR team, as well as CBS itself (albeit to a lesser degree) would be shooting themselves in the foot, possibly even the head (theoretically) if they actually LET RosieOh be Bob's replacement. Especially lately considering her tirades on the View.

(Might make some decent fodder for a Mad-TV sketch tho: the Showcase, when she gets mad at the first contestant for passing his showcase to the other guy and ending up with only furniture.....she gets so worked up the security guys have to come in and haul her away! With a decent "fat suit" and a fake voice I'd definately cast Arden Myrin for that role.... ;o)

Meanwhile I have recently been pondering the possibility of Pat Sajak theoretically taking Bob's place tho. I haven't seen Pat in quite a qhile tho (the local ABC affiliate that carries Wheel, KATU channel 2--and even KATU's digital simulcast on 40--have been incredibly difficult to receive at my place for the last coupla years) but what I have seen he certainly seems like he'd make a pretty decent Bob Barker.

Of course the big question might be: would Pat endorse spaying/neutering of pets at the end of each episode??? ;o)

As long as Rosie sticks to the script I don't see a problem. Daytime audience likes her, she does the "schmooze with the audience bit" just fine and as long as she's limited to 30 seconds to say "hello," to each contestant, she couldn't be controversal.

I don't see a show like TPIR giving anyone a lot of opportunities for their Views. They just direct the contestants to do their thing and act sad when they lose and happy for them when they win.

...the ever popular...

Personal opinion:
i believe, Ryan (sea-sick, lol ) the ever,popular Seacrest
would NOT be a bad choice.

Also young enough to be a long-term decision.

I personally endorse:
Todd Newton, as the number one selection.

Also, John O'Hurley(?sp), current Fam_Fued host...he
would be an excellent choice!

:ROSIE:
no, in fact, i think the TPIR/decision makers,
are "just saying" that, so the public does NOT
think the SHOW is OFF the Aire, just the legendary
host is hanging it up. I am a fan of TPIR, being
to tapings, etc and, a few people that I run into,
ask me, So is the show over ? No, Bob is just
not going to be the host...

Sidebar:
Opinion- of the following:
does this forum/board think once a
new host is established and the decision is FINAL
(like him/her, or STOP watching TPIR because of the new host)
really doesnt matter, but * i want the opinion on this topic:

do you think we will *ever* hear of
Mr. Barker again? well, ( until his unfortunate passing ).

Meaning: well, he wont have a media outlet, unless
-HE- goes on a radio talk show, or televison show...
Or, other than cameo's in .........TV spots, movies,
when will the public be able to have "contact" with
mr. Barker?

no, he wont be forgotten, but... just gracefully
and privately live out the rest of his life,
off-camera.....

ALSO:
opinion of the forum,
does any one think, the decison makers @ CBS/TPIR,
will blow thru a series of hosts, and make it
(looking back) the Barker years(1972?-2007)
first host(2007-jan 2008); next host( jan 2008-fall 2008)
another host( fall-2008-2009); yet another host(2009-2011)
first female host (2011-2012) back to another male host (2012-2014)
and, current host( 2014- present)

I hope *NOT* that will be....ugh!!! at what point, do u just pull the plug?

It could be worse, Paris Hilton could be the host and they replace the models with chippendale dancers. At the end of the show, they can neuter Tinkerbell.

Just heard that Drew Carey's name has been thrown into the mix. CBS must have really been impressed with his game show (Power of 10, I think) that is slated to air on CBS later this summer.
