Is Univision bringing Reggaeton Back to SA..

after taking La Kalle off air which I think was a big mistake, and now with this up-coming Reggaeton concert coming, now KXTN 107.5 Monday threw Thursdays is running a Latino Mix from 10pm till Midnight with Reggaeton and Cumbias, and even on Saturdays during the night mix show there mixing Reggaeton, do you think San Antonio will support another come back of a La Kalle like station??

SA could support a reggaeton station but it would have to have more variety than 95.1 La Kalle did. They played the same 10-15 songs all day long. Casa 106.7 in Dallas is a good example of a reggaeton station with a wide playlist.

Hell Yeah S.A. can support a Reggaeton station. La Kalle didn't flip because a lack of support. Univision figured they could make more money with Recuerdo than La Kalle.

Personally, I would like to see something like Mega 101 in Houston. Great mixture of Reggaeton, Hip Hop and Freestyle.

I agree. I'd be up for a station like Mega 101. Even though I'm not into reggaeton, it would fill the niche of hispanic programming in SA. Now all we need is a real regional mexican station. I suggest moving Norteno 720 to FM

cause I like banda...I think that's what it's called. The genre where it's just an ensemble of horns, saxs, clarinets, tuba (or bass keyboard) and the occasional percussion fills. I like it. it's different.

ok someone explain to me on the hispanic market in SA compared to, say the hispanic market in Houston. I just can't figure out why Houston has more regional Mexican style stations and not here. Aren't we closer to the border? I dont' know...like I said...please someone explain this to me

If I remember from what David said, its because Houston has a older population than San antonio. I gues thats why they also have a great r&b station on FM that is doing very well in the ratings, the top 5 acually.

San Antonio Hispanics are 2nd and 3rd tier generations. Houston, Austin and I believe Dallas are 1st tier. Most Hispanics in S.A. are younger and speak English as their primary language.

San Antonio Hispanics do have a higher average age, becaus there is a higher percentage of non-immigrant population. while Dallas and Houston ahave very young Hipanic communities due mostly to the fact that immigrants tend to be in their 20's and are in the family-building age, SA has many second generation and beyond.

While about 60% of Dallas Hisanics are Spanish dominant, it is only 40% in SA, indicating a much lower potential for Spanish language radio. But Dallas is 24% Hispanic, meaning there are about 14 to 15 Spanish shares (accounting for greater Hispanic media usage), SA is 52% Hispanic, so there are still around 20 Spanish shares available.

SA has had a Hispanic targeted hip hop station at #1 since KBBT debuted in 2000. It is definitely not r&b.

Houston has La Raza, KTJM, and Estereo Latino, KLTN and Que Buena, KKBU. Those are the only regional Mexican stations there.

San Antnoio has KSAH, KROM and KLEY.

I count the same.

Being close t the border has nothing to do with the appeal of Regional Mexican.

KRIO is Spanish Top 40 not Regional Mexican.

Sorry, meant La Ley. Too busy figureing out what they may do to remember what they still do! Of course RIO is Bob Perry's Digital format from Mexico City. I edited th epost to fix the mistake.
