Is WATX running at full power?

Just noticed that WATX 1220 Hamden, Clark Smidt's little oldies station, has upgraded its website, which now includes a coverage map that looks a lot like that of its predecessor on the frequency, WQUN. Are they finally back to 1,000 watts, and from a tower rather than the wet noodle they were using when I was last in Connecticut last December? Where is the transmitter site?

It looks like he just bought the license. The transmitter site and equipment at the transmitters site were not included.* According to the STAs he is being "denied access" to the site. by the new owner. ** I can't find any filing where a lease for the transmitter site was part of the sale. I guess the College sold the land out form under him. Why would anyone buy a stand alone Directional AM without the antenna field included (long term lease or sale of land) or some kind of duplex deal on another set of towers. The best I can tell he had to get a transmitter, and find somewhere to put up a long wire antenna. I do not believe the 250 watts daytime and 76 watts night are really providing a sellable signal in New Haven even if you can sell AM. There is no FM translator.

IMHO: Even at $3K this was not a bargain unless he can swing a FM transmitter that covers New Haven.

In the past and by past I mean since 1220 was revived as WATX I had been able to pick them up crystal clear on my car radio on Highland Avenue in Cheshire in Maplecroft Plaza the shopping center next to Stop and Shop where Marshall's and Consignment Originals is located. However when I was there a couple of Fridays ago I was getting static on 1220.
No one but you on this board is going to have any idea where that is. I lived in nearby Meriden for 40 years and that plaza and those stores mean nothing to me. Approximate distance from the WATX transmitter would be helpful, or at least give a report from a mile marker on I-91, which would be easy to locate on a map.

It was easy to find this store using Google:
:Marshalls · 199 Highland Ave, Cheshire, CT 06410

not too far from the original site.
