Is WBNS "MoViN" this week?

I'm not gonna try to take credit for this one cause I highly doubt they care what a message board has to say about them but if they do actually switch to MOViN, I'm gonna feel happily responsible.

THIS WILL BE THE SMARTEST MOVE THAT RADIOHIO HAS EVER MADE.

I wouldnt be so sure. This could all be a smokescreen. According to their web site, they have a radio a thon this weekend. I doubt they would flip at the same time. Besides, I'm sure WBNS still makes gobs of money. If Radio-Pimp gets credit for this decision, than I want credit for Marconi's inventing radio.

Well, the Fall Phase 1 Arbitron was just released, and 97.1 is really hurting. While it's not entirely fair to compare trends and quarterlies, they dropped over 1/2 point from what was already a pretty low share. I'd be curious to know how their performance compares between weekends and the rest of the week. I know the ratings (or their targeting) arent's based on MY preferences, but 97.1 sounds immensely listenable during their broader-than-ever "Anytime Weekends" (MUCH broader than their M-F "Anytime Lunch"), while on weekdays I can barely stand to listen to the boring Mix for more than five minutes. BTW, while it's too early to judge, I haven't seen very impressive initial results from the recent slew of Movin and "Movin-like" debuts across the country.

Come to think of it, couldn't the "Friday at 5" teaser mean they're going to be doing Movin weekends? OTOH, I've never heard of the licensor of Movin selling it just for specialty-programming use.

So I am thinking about this last night. The Wolfes know that CC is moving WMRN to town and if we speculate that WYNT is preparing for a flip to WMRN/Buckeye Country after the holidays and that leads us to the move to Dublin completing... maybe BNS makes a pre-emptive flip to Movin before the Dublin move-in.

Suppose someone over in the WBNS building caught wind of the format that CC plans to put on the Dublin move-in and it happened to be Movin. WBNS flips before the move-in is complete and takes the wind out of the CC sails.

Would Movin compete too much with WNCI for CC to consider it on the Dublin station? I would think not but I haven't listened to it enough to know for sure.

Granted I also realize that one of the best kept secrets in the world is what format a station is flipping to. For WBNS to know the plans of a competitor would be giving them way too much credit. Just all fun speculation. I also thought it was a strange time for WBNS to make a flip and was brainstorming ideas of what might be behind it (should it actually happen)

Don't know where you are getting the information that the WMRN move is happening anytime soon? I just went to the FCC's website, and the application is still an application. No CP has been granted for the move-in. Yes the station's stuff is already on the WOSU-TV tower, but it's not hooked up, and even if it was granted today, they will still have to finish hooking it up, testing it, and still finish the studio build out before they can put it on the air. That studio is a production room right now.

1. Absolutely, Movin would compete too much with WNCI for CC to consider it. The Columbus CC contingent is notoriously music/demo overlap shy...and in this particular case that phobia would acually have a rational basis! In some ways it would make strategic sense, though, if they're trying to dominate women and CC is pushing Whoopi's morning show.
2. Given the best-kept-secrets angle, why would 97.1 tease that something "Movin" is in the wind?
3. Columbus radio fan points out that the Marion to Dublin switch is NOT imminent. Of course that shouldn't stop 97.1's strategizers from speculating on what might happen when the switch does happen, i.e., "get movin on Movin' before the move-in."

Ugh, I have bad news. I'm not sure what Mix is up to this weekend but my sources tell me that they are NOT switching formats this friday. Now I don't know how they can use a TRADMARKED name like Movin and not get in trouble for it. Movin is a brand specific name in radio and can not be used without the consent of Burns Radio.

*edit for spelling

I agree...

I remember a few years back in Cincinnati when WKRQ (Q102) ran promos for a week I think saying "Q102 is finished." There was a ton of speculation about a format change. Then, when they went to announce why Q102 was finished, they announced that Q102 was finished with small contests or something like that and announced a new contest. It was dumb and Q102 of course still has their format.

I think MIX may be doing something similiar? I have no inside information, but I'm pretty skeptical that they are talking up a format change. Don't those usually just happen with some stunting leading up to it?

Sorry guys and gals.

The 'BNS "brain trust" wouldn't know how to "get movin'" anyway...whenever they have to haul ass, it takes several trips. Even though they are not a big "corporate" company, there's more red tape, politics and b(n)s there for a cluster of CCs.

What a BIG announcement - they are changing a show on Fri. nights - playing dance music instead of 80's. Why all the hype?

Funny thing was - they did menton this board on the air.

Is this dinky thread what the PD meant by "all over the radio boards"?? There must be something else, no?

And the PD spoke of starting off the weekend with a bang, so they're doing that by *pushing back* the start of the specialty show by 3 hours?

He kept talking about the success of their "Whatever Weekends," so I thought maybe the new Friday show -- or even the day-to-day format -- would go in a Whatever direction. But then he announced the Friday 80's Dance Mix instead. ???

Whatever...

Even Miss Cleo could see this one coming. The really stupid thing is except for some radio geeks on the internet, WBNS' listeners have never heard of the movin format anyway...so the stunting meant nothing to them.

not only was the stunt lame, it was actually leaked on AllAccess.com a few months ago. They talked about how a mix show would premiere after football season on Friday nights. I didn't believe it when I read it, cause I thought that they had a mix show on Saturdays. Whatever happened to that?

PS... the new show is not good. I caught about 10 minutes of it, and it isn't even live or local. It's syndicated crapola. Not exactly reminiscent of the local flair that Star 107.9 used to have back in the day!
