Is WCAP moving to Lawrence and going all oldies?

Two people stopped me today and asked if I had heard that WCAP is moving its offices and studios to Lawrence (to the building owned by Sal's Pizza) and going all oldies. One of the people works for Sal's.....the other works in the building next to the current WCAP world headquarters.....the building that has the antennas on it but isn't getting any compensation for it.

I hope that's true cause we are in dire need of a good oldies station around here. It would also be nice if they started broadcasting in C-Quam and added jingles!

I was out in the car tonight and punched up WCAP and must say when they play music the quality of the audio is astoundingly good for the very old equipment and technical mess that station is. Listening to it reminds me of the sound of CKLW during their glory days. Full, sweet, tight snare drums nice tight bass and a high frequency spacial aura that really good sounding AM's once had.
In days past we all remember hearing great sounding radio stations only to find out later that the place was a real dump with zero maintenance and very bad equipment....go figure.

I listened to their oldies programming quite a bit now, and I've recently noticed that they seemed to have cut down the number of titles they are playing. I'm guessing they needed the space on the hard drive...and that's just a guess, as I have no idea what kind of system they use to deliver the music programming...maybe someone in the know could let us know. They used to have about 800+ oldies, as much as I could decipher.

Also, several Beatles songs (remember, their music programming is called "The Beatles and Before") are getting played on a daily basis ("All You Need Is Love" is especially so). It almost seems like someone set it up deliberately that way. I think the heavy Beatles rotation has run it's course, anyway, and, if they do go all oldies, they need to drop that aspect. Just my opinion.

I've noticed a lot of 70's and 80's music has recently been added. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the Beatles last recording come out in 1970?

Actually they had 2 hits in the 90s, with part of the material being recorded in the late 60s or 70s; as part of the Beatles Anthology (mid 90s), John Lennon's songs Free as a Bird and Real Love were released
by the Beatles, with the other Fabs matching up with John's demos.

Free as a Bird debuted at #2 in the UK and made it up to #6 in US--the group's 34th Top 10 single here.
Real Love debuted at #4 in the UK and peaked at #10 in the US. The song's British chart performance was
stymied by the fact that it wasn't on the BBC's playlist--the Beeb said they were a contemporary music
station and it wasn't something teenagers wanted to hear. (Source Wikipedia)

I must admit I did my own parody lyrics:
Old...as the hills
That's what we've all become
Old as the hills
Cold, old and grey
That's what we've all become
Old as the hills

(Paul) the songs I sang before,
Like when I'm 64
Now they're coming true...

(George) Just call me Grandpa George
Old as the Hills

My understanding is that early on in the new ownership, there was talk of opening a studio at the Riverwalk Complex in Lawrence (which is the corporate headquarters for Lupoli Companies which owns Sal's Pizza, Salvatores Restaurants and other entities). I think the plan has been revived about a secondary studio - not a complete station move.
