is WCNC news going down the tubes?

Radio Weather

Speaking of which, when was the last time anyone heard a weather forecast on a major FM station? I get my weather from three small stations, primarily a local AM that has the Fox 8 guy doing the forecasts numerous times each hour.

That reminds me something I discovered that really bugged me. One station I know of voice tracks in some dayparts but still gives the current hourly temperature. I found they were using the predicted Accuweather hourly temperatures. They might be right or they could be way off. Evidently this station didn't care.

I won't say what station was doing this but it was not the last station I worked for. I wouldn't feel right faking information.

That's just crazy, lying to people. Brad Panovich might as well do that because he has no interest in reporting what actually happened.

I have finally starting taping WCCB's weather each night. I figured out when it was (I had to reset the VCR when I realized I was using actual time, not the time on the VCR which is broken because using a PBS station doesn't work right). Now I only watch WCNC's weather if I'm able to see it live at 6 on weekends. I can't watch at 6 during the week, nor would I care to. Daniella Lopez sort of cares what actually did happen.

Remember the PBS series a few years ago? That did nothing to help CNC.

Wrong--The PBS mini-series showed WCNC in a very positive light. At the time, WCNC news was really digging in, trying to make a difference, and it showed. The programs established WCNC as a national player in local news---a rep which was obviously short-lived.

Neither did it help Bea Thompson. She's still out there, but only part-time on radio.

Again, I disagree---Ms. Thompson reported and anchored on WPCQ (now WCNC) previous to their renewed commitment to news. However, she was the best thing going on those newscasts. Yes, she is now on radio, the primary newsperson on the #1 radio station in Charlotte (eat your heart out, WBT).

I remember a documentary about WCNC. I guess that's the one. Yes, I had a really positive view of them back then.

You're referring to WBAV, I believe. Yes, I can't believe it. WQNC was doing so well and WBAV so poorly. What HAPPENED?

Basically three things---1) 100,000 watts versus 6000 watts, 2) Steve Harvey ( as much as I dislike him) 3) CBS expertise in urban radio versus Radio One which can't quite decide what they want to do with WQNC.

As I remember it showed a lot of very serious warts too in the news department at WCNC. I wouldn't say it was positive. Even though they were trying to make a difference there was still quite a few things going wrong. I found it almost painful to watch.
