Is WDXX In Selma Fixing To...

Switch over to sports?

Read about a possible format flip on the awesome Montgomery TV and Radio site.

I was wondering if this info is true.

Maybe someone in the know could tell me.

If so, then that will send a shock down my entire body but personally I would welcome such a change.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Checking with that site to see where the poster got their info from and see if it's true.  Stay tuned and if I hear anything, I'll let you know.

I saw the following ad on www.allaccess.com while searching for jobs:

Broadsouth Communications, Inc. is launching a brand new FM radio station this Summer in Montgomery...now accepting resumes for the following positions: Sales, Marketing & Promotions Director, On-Air (Talk formats too).
[EDIT* - truncated to adhere to Fair Use standards]

By the way...Broadsouth owns WDXX. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.

Couldn't find the info on that link.

But I was wondering, could this be the new WGMP 93.1 FM station that's been in the works for a time now.

If so, then I hope this new station will do very well and have major success.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. And yes, Broadsouth does have a CP to do some upgrading to their WDXX branding.  Their new tower is being build in an area just south and east of Selma, off the Cecil Jackson Bypass.  I wonder if this station is fixing to ditch County and go Sports?  Could it be possible that a change is about to occur in poor and desolated West Central Alabama?  If so, then man bring it on.  I'm ready for it. And yes us poor folks want to hear us some Atlanta Braves Baseball on the radio again.  Please bring them back, Broadsouth, if WDXX is indeed going Sports.  Man this change will shock me still but I'll love it.

B.T.W. As I'm posting this possible exciting news, I'm still trying to launch my own radio station. If things work out, I plan on being Selma's first and only voice for the CCM presentation. Hope that God will soon allow my dream to work out and come to pass.

Just found the ad, while surfing that link.

Thanks for sharing the info with me.

I appreciate it.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. If 93.1 FM isn't going to be the new Broadsouth station, I wonder where it will be located. Could it be that WDXX is moving to Montgomery? Inquiring minds want to know.

To those wondering, I just discover this info from b5's awesome site. (Montgomery TV and Radio)

93.1 FM will indeed be located in the Bluewater building once they sign on.

Concerning WDXX, they are upgrading their facilities so they can cover more of Montgomery with their radio station.

It looks like WDXX may be the one to move to Montgomery and then do a FM based Sports format.

Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Hope someone else that's in the know will fill us in on WDXX and their future.  Sports would be a cool format for us to have here.  None of the full powered FMers here have ever done sports.  Hope WDXX will be the first one to do it.  If they are, I'm rooting for them to have success with it.

B.T.W. Hope your new station, at 93.1 FM Mr. Gower, will have instant success once you turn it on.  I'm rooting for you.

The facts are: worst kept secret in radio. Dixie will be repositioned as a "Montgomery" station with studios on Wall Street. Bill Jones (former Cululus) is consulting. Hired Doug Amos (sports talk) for an air shift. Can't have Finebaum - Cumulus and Alexander already have him. Have no idea as to format, but who cares? Encourage all to look at CP. Optimize all you want but this signal is 22 miles out of Montgomery with a 12 mile 70db city grade. Rimshot? Not sure why Reynolds would give up Selma revenue for a stand alone rimshot in Montgomery. Most stations in montgery don't bill $700k a year and he's going to be competing with a 7 station Cumulus, a 3 station Clear Channel, and a 7 station Bluewater cluster. They must know something we all don't.

As to 93.1. No secret: NewsTalk will go on 93.1 lock, stock, and barrel, immediately upon the LMA being terminated. New LMA already in place waiting to be executed. Don't know what Alexander will do with 107.9. Expect a call letter swap with WACV. Gump stays on 104.9.

Thanks for the update Mr. Gower.

Now for a new prediction.

WHBB gets a new owner, along with a new format.

Stay tuned for the Jazz, Talk, Gospel and Old School sounds of Z 1490 AM WBFZ Selma, with our pal Mr. Hank Sanders taking over real soon.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Now for those who thought I was crazy when I said Limbaugh was leaving from Selma, it looks like that prediction might happen after all.

B.T.W. I hope ALEX FM and Moody Radio South will stay put. We need those radio stations. Hate to see them go.

:D

'Not sure why Reynolds would give up Selma revenue'...hilarious. Someone doesn't want competition, especially after all that translator work.

I'm not sure how much competition the 'new' WDXX will be, unless the terrain somehow favours the signal in ways that the circular coverage plots don't show. Maybe my knowledge of Montgomery is off, but I also believe WDXX is going to be blowing in from the wrong side of town, money-wise. Isn't Montgomery more thriving to the east, north and southeast?

To Mr. Zach,

You got that right sir.

To Mr. Gower,

Agreed.

To Everyone Else,

Don't understand why WDXX is moving.  This one makes no sense to me. They could've stayed here and switched over to sports.  Oh well to each his own!

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Breaking News!!! Breaking News!!! Taken from Montgomery TV and Radio: the format for WDXX will be sports, Doug Amos said so on the air on his final show at cumulus so stop the speculation. Fox may be the network they carry. Man I'm stoked over this one. Hope WDXX does well with their new format, once they get it on.

A sheer stoke of genius is how to describe this change at WDXX.  You rock Mr. Mike and company.  Glad to see someone thinking outside the box and trying something other than the same old cookie cutter formats we have way too much of.

I'm ready to get my sports on.  Can't wait much longer.

Although this station won't be able to do Atlanta Braves, I'm not bitter.  Ready to check it out and enjoy the show.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Man just to have a sports station on the FM side here is awesome and exciting indeed. Hope this new presentation will do well for WDXX and their owner(s).

WDXX is a pipe dream. The 1MV interference free contour does not even reach into Montgomery. You can't change the laws of physics.. Not enough coverage to work in Montgomery. The new tower and signal will give great coverage of swamp land. Not even a good rim shot.

What does Reynolds know that we all don't? Hum? Word is he's borrowed a million dollars to pull off this project. Thats a lot of debt for a station with very little shot of billing over 20k a month. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. Somebody in the room smarter than me? Bueller? Anyone?

Now for my thoughts on your comments Mr. Gower.

Work with me on this.

I see WHBB AM being dumped once the move of WDXX is completed.  I say that because it's costing somebody lots of money to make this move.  The debts will have to be paid off anyway.  The only way I see the debt being paid is selling off this 1000 watt stand alone AM station.

The sale of this stand alone may not be enough to pay the debt but it will help in a major way.

I know someone will come along and say that I'm nuts but I just don't see anyone other than Mr. Hank Sanders and WBFZ FM expressing a strong interest in snagging WHBB.  I just don't see what good it would accomplish some outsider to get this radio station.  All talk would be a failure on here anyway.  Doing something other than a non-urban type of format, may prove to be a bad idea.  It would be better for Mr. Hank to get this one and then use it to help complement his FM counterpart.  Hey I know Mr. Hank would dump Limbaugh, due to his dislike of him but I won't get bitter over it.  I could learn to live without my fill of ElRushbo.  Still I could listen to the local talk that's on rimshot WAPI 100.5 FM Helena/Birmingham.  They give me my daily lessons on how to be a conservative anyway too.

Unless someone can convince me that Mr. Mike won't sell off WHBB, I'm going to soon say goodbye to Rush and avoid listening to AM altogether.
