Is WELI dumping Hannity?

According to last week's New Haven Register story about Imus on WELI, CC's market manager said he is searching for an afternoon drive host, so the station doesn't loose it's local flavor.

Dropping Hannity would be no loss. He says the exact same things over and over again; and interviews the same guest-hacks, like Dick Morris and Ollie North, who are has-beens with axes to grind. Hannity is not good radio.

I just read the job description at the link posted in the original note. They want an afternoon host for WELI who has Selector experience. Selector is music scheduling software. Weird.

Not really - remember that Jerry Kristafer was also PD as well, so they probably want someone who can either fill his shoes or at least help out around RTP.

True, but Jerry never scheduled music. They probably meant to say Nexgen as Jerry did run many of his show elements of the button bar and did edit format clocks and such.

Hate to tell you Bill1820 but WELI lost it's local flavor 15 years ago when Cheap Channel bought it. They fired Ron Rohmer. Hired some dude from Texas as the PD and they have been taking the elevator shaft down ever since then. They spike in ratings once in while. They might get a 4.8 share 12+. But for the only news station in New Haven County, that is pretty pathetic! ::)

Don't forget about the AM stations in Waterbury (also in New Haven County). They're pretty decent too, better than WELI!

I can remember an article from the very early 90s in the New Haven Register regarding the 'local' flavor of WELI when they were music (quite a bit R&B if I recall). Actually saved that article as basis for evidence of what local radio can do to connect with people as I was trying a hand at starting a station in SECT/Western RI. Yeah, they do fill a need being news and talk (and though I don't agree with Hannity all the time he has my respect with a healthy audience share nationwide). As news outfits go the nearby Fairfield County AM station duo does a nice job in the local news arena, quite impressive to me!
