Is WGNY-AM Can Go 50,000 Watts?

I listened to WGNY-AM so much, because it's a good oldies station than WCBS-FM because of this mess at WBPM, but it does covers a little bit in Kingston and even close to Poughkeepsie. It has Lou Dobbs from CNN from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM where he does political talk and then "When Radio Was" at 7:00 PM until sundown where the station doesn't come out well.

I've got a question. WGNY-AM is a station that has a weaker signal, but what's going to happen if WGNY-AM can go to 50,000 watts?

Before the annoying and extremley childish insulting starts here (which is more annoying than anything), let me answer this question seriously.

The answer to that is no, not easily. WGNY is too close to WHUC in Hudson, Co channel stations in PA and RI, and others that the only way WGNY could even possibly go 50kW, would be if it were aimed in a pencil beam from a site, and even then, they'd actually lose more coverage than they have now with their present 5kW signal.

Not to mention there is WHKW in Cleveland which is at 50kw already, and as necrat says causes interference with other 1220s in the northeast and marinetime Canada region.

This is why they have a CP for a station for 1200 AM in Highland, which was supposed to simulcast WGNY -AM broadcasting directionally, remember Disney. Also they simulcast WGNY -AM on WGNY-FM HD2 so I doubt the new AM station will ever be built given the very limited range of the station especially at night. They have had the CP for several years and there has been no movement on it. For the most part small local AM stations are dead .The owners are just keeping the transmitters warm broadcasting off the satellite. They can no longer compete with FM stations that broadcast more than a few miles at night.

Don't forget, WHKW was always 50 kilowatts, albeit directional. I remember listening to them in the late 70s and 80s when they were WGAR and later WKNR.
