Is WODS Doomed?

They would never go talk. The Talk format in Boston is overcrowded and none of the talkers really get stellar ratings. I expect WODS to rebound, there have been alot of tweakages recently to stay demographically desireable to advertisers.

How about either a country leaning CHR (given WKLB's ratings) or a country-classic hits/rock type "we play everything" Jack format: A lot of the 70s-80s hair band/arena rock ballad stuff is compatible with——e.g.——Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town, Rascal Flats, Sammy Kershaw...especially if they used a strong dose of reverb/compression! ::) ;D ::)

It has been a freaking revolving door there in AM drive since Uncle Dale left that shift.

Leaving a top 10 market for Long Island? I hope it is a NYC market station, otherwise I'm scratching my head. But since he is from Long Island, and he did fill ins on BLI back in 2005 before getting the NH gig, maybe he is just going home so to speak. He does have a history in the NY market at various stations.

Granted back in LATE October when he was brought in, it was billed as a temporary gig, until the end of the year, so he has had a 4 month run.

Before that he was on the beach well over a year after The Evil Empire canned him from WERZ up in NH.

It's the nature of the job I guess.

I heard some talk about the Summer Concert Series recently. Would be silly to continue on with plans for WODS artists to play live this summer and have no WODS.
I am rooting for Hall & Oates!

94.3 WIGX does not cover NYC, in fact 94.3 in/around the city is loaded with pirates. WIGX is just a class A signal, not even coming close to covering the whole island. http://www.radio-locator.com/pats/WIGX_FM_LU.gif

OK next question, with their ratings a tad low in this last PPM reporting period, are they going to tweak the morning show by adding another co-host, fall back on the "we can't afford the guy" excuse, or just let Karen run solo and hope for as much of the pie as they can get while the Matty's, Loren & Wally's, and perennial front runners rule AM drive?

If it was a temp gig, they let the show quite a long time with the two of them. Can't think that's going to help the station.

Could definitely see something like this working, although I'd go light on modern-day stuff as well as the '80s hair band material. A typical 12-song set list might look something like this...

Eagles - Tequilla Sunrise
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
Led Zeppelin - Rock N' Roll
Lady Antebellum -Run to You
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Jason Aldean - She's Country
Shania Twain - Still the One
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
Glen Campbell - Gentle On My Mind
Carrie Underwood - <insert whatever song here>
Heart - Barracuda
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me (personally hate it, but you'd need songs like for the female demo, while there's Skynyrd, Zeppelin, etc. for the men)

That's probably far from perfect, but it's a general outline of what I'd imagine such a station would sound like. No reason in my mind why this wouldn't work; Boston isn't quite the country music wasteland that it used to be, and every country fan I've ever known around here has strong rock roots, men and women alike.

Star 93.7 had several events on their calendar when the station was flipped to Mike - and at least one concert went on anyway. I don't think that would stop CBS if they really wanted to make a change.
