Is WPEP Taunton still on the air?

I thought that I had read a while back that WPEP was giving up its'
license to 1570 in Beverly, MA? Any update on this issue? Thanks..

As far as I'm aware, WPEP is still on the air. At some point it was to have surrendered its license so that WNSH Beverly could up day power to 50 kW.
WPEP has by far the better night signal of the 2 presently, with 227 watts to WNSH's 85.WNSH will still be 85 watts non directional after dark, even with the daytime upgrade...

I wonder if WPEP could then be on just at night, when WNSH powers down? Those low powered night signals couldn't possibly interfere with one another.

Hi Eli,

In order for WPEP and WNSH to co exist, Taunton would have to would have to build a tight directional array to protect Beverly. They could also do as WEMG 1310 does..run about 600 watts daytime non-d.

I was wondering about the possibility of WPEP operating with their current facility ONLY at night, when both stations would be on the same reduced nighttime power that they currently use now.

I understand that WPEP had to go off to make way for WNSH's new day power, but I was wondering if WPEP could sign on at sunset with their present night power when WNSH powers down to their present night power? Then they would have to sign off at sunrise when WNSH powers back up.

I don't know if there's such a thing as nighttime-only AM stations anywhere, maybe it could set a precedent.

But why bother? The AM audience at night drops substantially
once drive time is over. Of course if the station were dedicated
to doing local high school basketball or something....

If they COULD full-time with about 600 Watts it might be enough
for true LOCAL service. I believe WPEP started life as a
250-Watt fulltimer though I may have it confused with any of
several other stations in SE Massachusetts, one of which I
worked for back in the day....
