Is WPHT losing money?

Does anyone know if 1210 WPHT-AM is losing money, despite the live and local lineup during the week and the brokered and paid programming that airs on the weekends and the Phillies?

Probably losing money because of the local-live line-up. Talk show hosts, producers, screeners, board ops.... cost money.

But cost less than the coverage fees and barter avails they had to give the syndicated fare.

They are probably losing LESS money running their current local lineup then paying major market rights fees to carry Beck, Rush & Hannity. Also, talk hosts and producers aren't making the kind of money they used to. Theoretically, WPHT could be making a modest profit now, as opposed to losing money running the top tier conserva-talkers. I wouldn't be surprised if WWIQ is at best breaking even. The mess they have right now in the morning tells me they don't have a lot of extra capital to invest in a proper morning show team.

And if you're going to say that about WPHT, how about the Fanatic? They have a fairly big local staff, including Mike Missanelli and Tony Bruno, and rights fees for the Sixers and Flyers...yet they only seem to get into the lower 2 share range at best. I know the demos are better with sports talk, but still...there's a lot invested in programming without a big ratings payout. Maybe the 25-54 male numbers are better, but I'm sure WIP-FM and the rockers beat them. You have to wonder how long they can hold out.

WWIQ is lucky to be number in for talk. 1210 WPHT made mistakes that allowed WWIQ to be number 1 for talk. As for the money, you are right about that.
