IS WPRO ONE OR FOUR RADIO STATIONS?

The problem I see with this WPRO fiasco is that I've always felt a radio station is one unit composed of separate elements all working towards a common goal. WPRO isn't. Take four live and local talk shows and I think the situation is they're all working against each other because of separate personality and ego issues. Imagine a sports team where the players acted like this with each one in it for himself! Imagine a music station with a staff full of jocks all trying to one-up each other by going his own way. Maybe WHJJ has the right idea with only one local host. Eliminates personnel problems.

You want my opinion about this? I'll go out on a limb and admit if I'm wrong later if more specifics come out. I don't think DePetro had a damn thing to do with this and frankly I don't have strong opinions about him one way or the other. I think whoever is behind this knew those diaries would stick out like sore thumbs and wanted them to. I think whoever is behind this orchestrated it then made sure WHJJ knew about it and any opinion DePetro has about who is behind it he doesn't dare even insinuate.

I just bet if it ever is made public what the "media affiliation" this mystery household has, you'll find the affiliation isn't with DePetro but with some party feuding with him who wants him out.

You don't think Depotro had ANYTHING TO do with this? So answer this question. When ABC6 asked him if he was involved in any way with those 6 diaries.... Why did he not say NO?

Here is a hypothetical example. Let's pretend that You spent all day Saturday at home. You didn't even leave your house. Sunday morning the Cops show up at your door and said there was a murder on your street Saturday Night. They then ask you if you were involved. Now are you going to say NO (or) are you going to say to them that you are just focused on making breakfast right now and then you are going to go on vacation?

Sometimes coming to this board feels like I'm leading the blind.

I didn't see the ABC6 interview but maybe he was told to shut up by his superiors and was nervous about both the questioning and being under scrutiny by the higher ups at WPRO.Fact is when I've seen stories like this about diary tampering I've also seen parties named. Why no parties named by Arbitron and if not actually named, then why not at least identified as employees of the station, relatives, neighbors, friends, etc?Arbitron obviously knows of a media affiliation.Sooner or later any cover up has to end and there must be some sort of clarification.Do we just wait until an axe falls(which it probably will)and assume that's the guilty party?

And what about Paul Giammarco.Yes he was involved in hiring Buddy which I doubt was his sole idea.He pushed for the simulcast. He expanded Matt Allen's role. But is he a good people handler?A lot of the job of programming is managing people and it doesn't look like he could keep a group of goldfish in order in spite of the fact that he's saddled with a group of the most unpleasant people in radio imaginable.

Geeez.... one thing is clear. There are about 50 people on this board who will make excuses for the guy. I just don't understand why. Can everyone do me a favor and watch the clip again at this link?

Also pay attention to the statement WPRO Management issued in this same report. They claim that after they review the revised ratings, then they will be able to comment.

Well we are waiting. We are all waiting..... and it better be good.

Skynet I'm not making excuses. I watched the video on wlne.com and frankly he came across as someone under a WPRO gag order and nervous about the whole thing. If he loses this job he's done in Providence and Boston is damn sure not taking him back. If he wants to stay in talk radio he has to move to another market and that may not be easy at this point. He's nervous. Maybe he orchestrated it and maybe someone else did to screw him. God knows he isn't the best liked person in Providence radio and isn't working side by side with the most benevolent bunch of people in the world. I just have this gut feeling this didn't begin with him so we have a hung jury here but we're not the ones deciding. Frankly I don't wish radio career troubles on anyone but could really care less if half this market got canned and syndication was allowed to run rampant. I made my feelings known in my very first post here a few months ago.

Fair enough. I can't even imagine what else I could possible say on this topic. I'm even sick of hearing myself talk about it. So unless something else finally happens with this whole thing such as PRO issuing a statement , Depetro getting fired, etc.... than I think I'm done with this for now. I'm bored with it.

Be real.

DO you really think JOHN DEPETRO. of ALL people, would just shut up and not DENY this---just because management told him to?

If you have NO involvement in something as unethical as this is, professionally speaking, you would want it IMMEDIATELY understood that you had NOTHING to do with this, NOTHING!

And IF John had nothing to do with it, I cannot imagine management giving a damn if he denies having anything to do with it.

Some people have no ability to read a situation realistically.

I couldn't DISAGREE more! For those of us old enough to remember the WHJJ of the early 1980's, the conflicting and clashing personalities and agendas of folks like Sherm Strickhouser, Steve White, Steve Kass, Bob Oliver and Eddie Beard is precisely what made the station really cook!

You might say it was a kind of radio version of those old early 1970's Oakland A's baseball teams where everyone hated each other's guts......and somehow managed to win three World Championships in a short span of time.

Don't believe in this theroy?......Check out the Arbitron books for WHJJ in those times, and then decide for yourself!!!
