Is WRBZ stunting?

On Saturday, New Years' Eve, WRBZ Wetumpka (1250 AM and FM translator 95.5) replayed the live in-studio version of "A Homestyle Christmas". While playing minimal Christmas music as part of their syndicated classic hits format prior to Christmas, it seemed odd they would spend all day with Christmas programming six days after the actual holiday after not doing so earlier in the week.

Also, they are really pushing the call letters WRBZ as opposed to "Kool Classic Hits", which has been the station moniker since the translator moved from 95.7 (Kool 95.7) to 95.5 weeks ago. Could a new format such as an Urban AC or Urban Oldies "Breeze" be far away?

I expect to hear the local church programming Sunday (New Year's Day) morning and the regular Spanish language programming Sunday afternoon. Afterwards? Who knows.

If WRBZ is fixing to make a switch, I hope they'll try one of these formats and see if they can run with them:

1. Smooth Jazz
2. Adult Album Alternative
3. Spanish full time

Must have been a false alarm. This morning (Sunday), Kool Classic Hits as it were is back.

I still think there is room and market for a full time Spanish station in Montgomery, with or without the translator. Virtually duplicating the format of 96.1 in the market doesn't seem reasonable, but how much of radio is these days?

I don't think with WVAS in the market, and with nationwide stations dropping Smooth Jazz, it will ever surface on another Montgomery station. And, I think its becoming obvious 93.1 will become "The Gump" when it does sign on.

We'll see.
