Is WRDU next?

Am surprised nobody here is talking out this latest rumor. 93.1 in the Triad recently flipped to country...and now per All-Access:

WRDU Going Country?
ALL ACCESS is hearing strong rumors of CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rocker WRDU/RALEIGH flipping to Country any second now. Is WQDR about to get a direct competitor? Stay tuned.

I like "direct competitor" the best! It's like Capitol's WCMC doesn't even exist! I mean, I know they've made a small dent in WQDR's numbers..but not much.

ohhhhh really? ? ? I wonder if this is in relation with the fact that they are wanting to move their transmitter as well?
I'm listening to the station right now (7:43pm). Nothing yet.

Just heard a commercial advertising 100.7 The River (RDU's Sister Station), and I kid you not, mention that "100.7 The River, plays a great variety of classics...(inserts Doobie Brothers - Black Water)...a great blend of the classics..." < something similar to that, and so could this be a clue that they are indeed changing ? perhaps an underlying message to listeners that they are gonna have to switch to the River for their "classics".

To date, I don't hear that many 'classics' on the River, that RDU plays.

On 100.7 the River, around 5:20 I heard a JB&B promo saying something like "I know we’ve made some mistakes in the past, but Raleigh loves us. If you need a ride from “RDU" we’ll be happy to give you one."

Clever, but so sad. God, I just wish they'd at least keep Bob and tom.

In the end, Raleigh will be without a real AAA, a modern AC, A hot AC, or any type of real alternative or new rocker [96Rock sure as hell doesn't count for playing "new" rock.] That's a huge portion of music that isn't being dished up, anywhere except for the little bits and pieces you get on WBBB, WKNC, Q98 and G105.

They ARE changing. just checked out 100.7, SAME voiceover as 106.1 RDU!

new jingles too
..."100.7 The NEW River"...

when will RDU flip ? It has to be sooner than later now...

I've always had high hopes that G105 would return back to a modern AC format like they had in the early and mid 1990's, but I seriously doubt it'll happen.

I can dream, though.

Modern AC or not, they're still one of the only good stations in Raleigh. Ironically, They're owned by one of the worst companies. Whatever happens, just hope CC doesn't mess around with G105 like they do everything else; if they do, they'll kill it like they do everything else.

And no CHR Rhythmic either. Raleigh has long been one ofthe most under radioed market in America.

Jock mentioned on air just a minute ago that they have a meeting today at 4 p.m...

That would be interesting... the Triangle becoming a three-country-station market right after the Triad picks up their third country station... QDR in Raleigh corresponding to TQR in the Triad, WCMC corresponding to WIST, and RDU would correspond to The Wolf. But if RDU flips, who would pick up the UNC broadcasts? 100.7 lost them after flipping from oldies to The River...

UNC games are not about format. Normally, those rights run in five year deals. I suspect TRG decided not to renew because the national consultant felt sports was not a good fit for the station. Or, UNC may have had a better offer.

Around 2:40, Blade called in and said he was "taking the day off." Something about golfing in the rain.

2:57, and a promo for 100.7just came on; I also haven't heard any on-air personalities in the past 20 minutes.

3:01. Blade again. Same spot as earlier,. Maybe it was different, I don't know. "I'm taking the day off," and continuing on about golf.

3:15 and it's blade again, going on about taking the afternoon off and kicking back. Thing is, he sounds live. What the hell?

Flip at 5?

Well, everyone knows that if it does flip to country...it will just be the same ole CC cookie cutter stuff.

Probably "The Bull" Gosh I hope not.

Two "bulls" in one market? I doubt they'll use that name; there's already 620 The Bull...

I remember RDU from its hayday and it's so sad to see it go. It was such a powerhouse rocker at one time. Can't believe The Rooster will carry John Boy & Billy. They're not doing at all well on WVBZ The Buzzard in the Triad. That show is way past its prime. It was probably the cheapest thing CC could figure out to do. Another cookie cutter move that will result in their usual mediocrity.

Can anyone tell me anymore about the new WRDU (106-1 The Rooster). I honestly can't see anyone taking numbers from 'QDR, unless they do it exactly right, which is what they would have to do.

If you ask me, I still think Rooster 106.1 is just another "100.7 The Bull." CC pulled this same stunt two years ago with 100.7 when they dumped oldies, and--- ironically--- some of the tunes WTRG played were moved to 106.1 RDU.
Another example of history repeating itself? Two years ago, when 100.7 was the Carolina FM flagship station, CC dumped the oldies format (1) in the middle of football season and (2) just as basketball season was just about to get started (the 100.7 flip from oldies to stunting to The Bull to The River, for those who weren't in this area then, took place in November 2004). Now CC does the same thing with the current UNC FM flagship (106.1 RDU)--- and to the same "format"--- (1) in the middle of football season and (2) just as basketball season is about to get started. The one difference? Instead of rooster or bull sounds, WTRG, during its week of stunting, simulcast its sister stations. Hmmmmm....
