Is WTIF AM still on the air?

They used to have a killer morning show...Sutton and Tibbets....but I've lost touch with AM in that area. I know the other one....WWGS closed years ago...Nashville and Adel are gone too....but aren't all of the Valdosta AM's still on the air? Wish someone would build a site of old airchecks from those days. Wouldn't that be something?

Some of those Valdosta Ams are still on. No tall:

810-Hahira---not sure what that one is anymore.
910 Last I heard was running on a long wire, with a telco feed and could barely be heard anywhere. (Used to have a great Day and night signal from the four towers along I-75)
950-WGOV is still an Urban---Still owned by the Riverseseses.
1150-WJEM was black gospel, although I heard it was now spanish. Looks like they failed to renew few years back, but got a renewal later.. Where the heck did Unca Vernon end up anyway?
1450-WVLD--Sports now?

Yeah the Valdosta are on, but shells of what they once were. I would suspect that WTIF is still there...but probably a shell.

WWGS---wow a blast from the past there!. I think that old site is a Walmart now?

Unca Vernon!!!!!!!

Now THERE'S a character!! I used to hear him in Perry on WPGA....and he was on several Valdosta stations....seems like WVLD for one...but WJEM for many many years, best I know. His name came up
a couple of years ago....someone said he had been living in Tallahassee, but think he had moved back to Valdosta. Don't know. What was that guy's name that did the old Jim Walter Homes commercials? I think he and Unca Vernon worked together...not sure. Macon's old WMAZ is now WMAC....talk format. AM radio was an awesome technology back in its time....seems unthinkable now. lol Course the big big big station was WAPE....da big ape! looooooooong time ago.

Cant remember the Jim Walter voice. A couple of other names that come to mind from Valdosta:

Jay Clark (was with VLD for years, then WGOV/WAAC as GM)
JC Johnson---WJEM
Orson Woodall---ran WGAF for a few years.

An Unca Vernon story: I got a job at WJEM. One of the first things you do is drive down to South Georgia Communications---accross from the airport---and get a two way put in your car. This was so you could be "dispatched" to wrecks etc in the area, and report live on the accident etc.

So, one day they send me out to report on a wreck. It turns out to be very minor, so I call back and tell them "no use reporting on this...its no big deal". Smart-A$$ Kid, NO, YOU DO THE REPORT, BECAUSE WE CAN BILL THE SPONSOR ANYTIME WE DO ONE OF THESE!!!!

Lesson learned.

LMAO!!

Bill the sponsor....yep, SOP for radio/newspaper biz. The one you mentioned....J C Johnson is the guy! Used to hear him from Brunswick to Bainbridge and from down around Lake City up to Forsyth....AM radio all over the place... "Jim Walter Homes....a dollar and a deed is all you need." I had forgotten that name.

Jay Clark...somebody told me he had gone back to work at the country station...92.9 in valdosta. Been about a year ago....but I had lost track of him too. time flies...

I couldn't find a format listing, but it appears that WTIF is still broadcasting. The
station is owned by Three Trees Communications.

I believe that 910 is silent, and has been for some time.

That station just returned to the air as "The Jock 910 AM". In fact, just last week its parent company, Smalltown Broadcasting, just signed a deal with Valdosta State University to become the primary flagship stations for that school's sports radio network.

Tibbets is still on the air in Athens, GA. On Magic 102.1 WGMG. He has been the morning guy for 10-12 years there! I have to Agree, He is good. I *think* before that he was on Bulldog 103.7 WPUP , as Buster Wafflehouse?
