Isaac Hayes (1942-2008)

I think this has to be the most shocking weekend for the entertainment world. First we lose Bernie Mac and now we lose Issac Hayes, wow! My heart goes out to the families of both entertainers. May they rest in peace.

I read Robert Redford is very sick and not expected to live more than a week..

So that would be your third

I thought Isaac Hayes was a GREAT talent; have a lot of his CD's. One of his first albums "To Be Continued" was great '"mood" music. RIP.

RIP I.H.

Well, yesterday-Bernie Mac died in his hometown of Chicago. And BOTH Mac & Hayes appears in the upcoming Samuel L. Jackson film, "Soul Men". Hopefuly, Dimension Films will probably dedicate it to both stars of the film. it has been a devasted week this past week. We lost Estelle Getty (The Golden Girls), and the Longtime voice of The Braves, Skip Caray. Godspeed.

Sadly I think we are going to lose a LOT of famous folks this year. last week I heard that Paul Newman isn't expect to live much longer. Then this morning I heard on a local radio station that Bea Arthur is "gravely ill" and she too isn't expected to last much longer either.

And on top of that I heard recently that Soupy Sales is in very bad health now.

Then there is Dick Clark, George "Goober" Lindsay and Annette Funicello are "rumored" to be at death's door now. Hopefully in the cases of Sales, Clark, Goober and Annette, thats what it is...rumors !!

But with Newman and Arthur...sadly I don't think they will be around much longer.

Dude, I hate to break this to you, but...we're all at death's door. It's only a matter of how long we can keep the Grim Reaper from catching up to us.

But really, it has been quite a tough time for entertainment folks recently. The double hit of losing Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac on consecutive days shocked me just as much as the month-ago passing of Bobby Murcer (former MLB player and Yankees broadcaster). I knew both Murcer and Skip Caray were sick, but still their deaths were both hard because we all wished them well. It was the same thing with my grandfather, and I lost him two weeks ago Sunday.

Death sucks. Life rocks. Enjoy every minute of it and have no regrets.

I'll make this thread TV-related, although how I'll do it might qualify it more for Classic TV.

In the early '70's (my middle school days) I saw a commercial for one of those K-Tel or Sessions type grab bag albums, a broad based anthology of then-recent soul hits by various artists. IIRC the album was called "Super Bad". Pitching the disc was none other than Isaac Hayes!

When Hayes's "Theme from Shaft" was new, hearing it fairly scared me.

RIP, Isaac.

Sorry to hear about your grand-father. I lost mine last year and it is hard.

I agree with you. We are ALL at death's door. All of us could die tomorrow ..or today..enjoy every minute...my wife would say.

But there is something about the sight of seeing Paul Newman or Annette Funicello in a wheel chair or Dick Clark having trouble getting through one sentance.
Seeing a pic of Bea Arthur sitting on the beach with a blank stare on her face as if she don't know who she is. Or a disabled Soupy Sales or George Lindsay. Or that recent pic of Barry Manilow. Makes people think.

Well they are getting old. And we are too. best to enjoy life..right now.
