Isaac radio

I know WIOD had some long form coverage over the weekend. I also heard WFTL do some stuff between their paid programming. WLRN (at least on Facebook) talked about their coverage. But did any other FM station do anything on this storm? I tuned around and only heard music.

Glad *you* started this thread and not me.

First I will say I am thankful to the Lord that things were not worse, and we were able to *not* have to evacuate our mobile home.

I was disappointed in the lack of radio coverage, especially when electricity could have gone out at any time. TV was seemingly wall-to-wall, but what if the electricity *did* go out? Top-of-the-hour updates aren't enough.

I admit I forgot about WFTL....but I think WIOD coulda done better. (If you wanna count 100.3 FM in this, wellllll.....) I tuned in 610 yesterday & it sounded like a financial show. Sure, the bills have to be paid, but really.....

Did any FM stations say "Stay tuned right here for any important Isaac news/updates"? I was watching ch 10. They are decent....not sensationalistic, IMO.

I totally agree. Radio (both WIOD and WFTL) definitely did an under performing job. No wall to wall coverage (at least not that I heard.) They interspersed coverage between their paid shows. TV on the other had went WAY overboard.

Of all the TV stations, 10 did the best job. I was very impressed. I guess consider it a dry run since it was the first time for hurricane coverage in their new studios? But it was over the top -- to much, too long and too early on. Updates every 15-30 minutes on TV would have been fine.

(yes, I know I'm behind hypocritical, saying radio should have done some wall-to-wall while TV did all wall-to-wall, but I really think radio should have the leg up on TV. But it did not in this case)

I am pretty sure that had Isaac crossed SoFL/the Keys on a weekday, things would have been different, radio-wise. So many stations seem to shut it off for the weekend.

I was watching WPTV today, as the tornado near Vero Beach even shut down "Days of Our Lives"; DOOL wasn't even on their subchannel. Parents were not allowed to pick up their kids at school (which was operational there today) immediately. That must have been terrible weather.

There was a drawing of "Isaac" in the Gulf, and then outer circles that stretched out into the Atlantic, possibly halfway to Bermuda! This was quite a storm, more than I thought it would have been....

My prayers are with all of you in the Gulf.

As far as coverage of "ISAAC" very little at best. I remember when Hurricane Andrew hit, I believe it was WIOD who had, I think the Channel 6 feed going on constantly. The OP is right. What if the electricity went out? How were we going to have the information we needed?

I think radio played it right. It was a non event. I've seen rainier days this summer than what Isaac brought us. TV blew everything out of proportion.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Who was to say what could have really happened? Anyway, even yesterday, a tornado near Vero Beach caused issues, and it looked like *it* was Isaac-related.

"Better to be safe than sorry"
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
"A word of the wise is, be prepared for surprises" (I heard that on a cartoon)

Katy Perry can play on the radio any *other* time.....
