Island 94.3FM is currently experiencing technical difficulties

From the Island 94.3 website:

"Island 94.3FM is currently experiencing technical difficulties related to the huge amounts of rain we have received overnight.

We hope to return to the air as soon as possible."

http://www.island943.com

You can currently hear WYBC in New Haven quite clearly from Central Suffolk.
Edited by Michael D on 10/15/05 02:59 AM.

This is a true curiosity. We've been hearing 94.3 WYBC out of Yale University since the Island 94.3 signal went down. YES.net is actually feeding WYBCs log to the WMJC website. Does anyone know how the YES.net system works?

It's my understanding that YES can work in a variety of different ways depending on what the station is able to do. I don't think it's a mointoring situation such as MediaBase. I think stations send logs or use an application that parses the song information from their automation software (similar to the way RDS would get it) and sends it to the server.
______________

The songs coming across the island943.com website this morning were Chrisitian songs, which is the normal programming for WYBC on Sunday mornings. The songs matched what WYBC was playing.

Maybe there's a monitor that picks up the RDS subcarrier of 94.3, and it got WYBC from Yale.
______________

No so curious, if the WEBsite is using a radio, and WYBC's signal is just strong enough to get through, while MJC is off the air.

TMO loaned a low transmitter to Barnstable to get Island 94.3 back on the air while they wait for their new equipment. Nice job guys!

From the inside at MJC, John C and Ron Reeves saved the day for Island. These guys were great. Say what you want about John C but at one time or another, this guy has helped every radio station on LI get back on the air. TMO has always played above board with every radio station on LI, and John is a true radio pro! Nice going TMO john c and Ron!
